Right. Only one ignorant judges one coach by his own individual ability to perform but also one ignorant judges one coach by what his/her runner did perform since we got runners of very different ability to perform.
For instance, someone quite ignorant as a coach can coach Kenenisa Bekele to produce highest performances that you will ever perform despite you would be coached by a very competent runner.
In this context, where fits your comment about Lydiard as the "the greatest" coach ever" ? ? Only by judge ignorance someone can classify Lydiard as the "greatest coach ever". Might be a coach with success, might be a coach with an interesting method, might be a coach with competence, but "the greatest" ? ? This your judgement is about individual preference or just fanatics but not about coach rational competence.
Despite in the context of the debate on this thread your comment on Lydiard is just inappropriate and irrational.
It´s funny. I was accused by you to bring Lydiard to the debate ever and comment about Lydiard, but in fact i did debate about many subjects out of Lydiard and most of my thousand posts are out of Lydiard , when you, you did confess that 98% of your LRC are about Lydiard.
You said that:"...Great runners don't necessarily make great coaches.
I know some very talented runners who do not have a tonne of knowledge..." Nothing so true. But let me add, I know sport journalists with "reputation" but in fact they don´t have a tonne of knowledge about training. You are the one.
