But don't worry, he freely spoke about it with Not Austin 18 and all his high school friends.
last year when talking about athletes doing things the "right way" he notably left out NOP athletes
it is pretty obvious
read between the lines

It sounds like his relationship with Salazar is not good, which would not be surprising given a number of things said about Sal's personality.
I'm not saying it couldn't be drugs, but it doesn't clearly imply that, either. He did mention Alan Webb, whose time with NOP may have slightly overlapped.
Magness is kind of a joke. Never have I heard someone say so many words yet teach me so little.
And not listing Alberto as an influence is crap. If weren't Alberto letting him work with his athletes, what credentials does he have? He was fast in HS and has gone to grad school. I guess that is as good as anyone in else on one sense, but.....it does prove to me he is some kind of expert coach or guru as he seems to think he is.
You can't judge a run coach or perhaps any coach by their ability to play the sport.
Arthur Lydiard, the greatest coach ever was only a 2:39-something marathon runner and had no certification. He is knighted in two countries for his contributions.
When people go on about a coach's ability to run, I like to reference the NHL. The greatest coaches in the NHL were almost exclusively mediocre players. The best, Scotty Bowman hardly played at all as a pro.
Great runners don't necessarily make great coaches.
I know some very talented runners who do not have a tonne of knowledge.

This, 100x. Steve is just some schmuck with a master's in exercise phys without access to Alberto's group. Then he jacks an athlete or two and now he's a big-shot? Please. If Steve had actual info on drug use at NOP, why not speak out about it? He is just being petty and trying to cast a shadow on Salazar's work.

He hasn't improved since high school, though, which isn't a great sign. I agree with T-Rex, although I do respect him and try to learn from his stuff, it is not very well-written. Maybe he been very successful as the Houston coach, I wouldn't know.

I agree with T-rex too. If you know something say it, if you don't know anything then admit it. Instead Magness has been evasive on this subject ever since his departure, but giving just enough to make people speculate that maybe knows something.
Do you guys ever think that Magness doesn't say anything because he had to sign an agreement? Or the fact that if he does say anything, his job is in jeopardy.
How do we know he hasn't gone to USADA and told them behind the scenes? How do we know he isnt helping to clean the sport up.
I was at Worlds last year, in the athletes area, and saw Salazar come up to Magness and start talking in his face. Magness just stood there and didn't blink.
Whatever you say about the kid's career, Sara Hall just ran a sub-53 10 miler, Areson has run some solid 5k's, and his college team is pretty good for a team that has almost zero recent distance tradition.
You guys clearly have no idea how this sport works. If you call out a nike athlete, you essentially black list yourself in the sport. He also almost certainly signed a non-disclosure when he left the group. Steve is a super nice guy who puts a ton of effort and passion into his job. And he's not a shmuck...look at what he's done in the limited time he's been at Houston. Not to mention the pros that he coaches.
Renato also speaks pretty highly of him

this x 1000
sleazy sal's behavior at usa indoors this year was nothing new. he has always been like this.
why do you think everybody that leaves sleazy sal has nothing good to say about him? because he is bad news
Magness has stated he is strongly opposed to TUE's or at least abusing them, specifically the thyroid one.
So, maybe it is possible that during his time Galen or Mo were using thyroid hormone with a TUE (supposedly they are not currently), and some other legal stimulants. Magness would be against this, but he wouldn't really have any "dirt" on AlSal because what they are doing is legal. This would explain why he leaves out Galen and Mo when mentioning athletes "doing things the right way," yet they arguably weren't cheaters.

another possibility is that they are on the sauce
Just another item to the long list of suspicious activity of Salazar. Really the nail in the coffin was 10 yrs ago when Slaney was caught.
Nike sponsors Houston.
What happens if he speaks up? Boom. Not just XC and track, but every sport at that school loses Nike.
Not to mention that he may have signed something while working with NOP... I don't know. I'm willing to admit that...
Steve Magness is one hell of a guy though. To me, the fact that #ocl says he is a tool proves that he doesn't know him.
He has a reason for not speaking up. This guy DESPISES drug cheats. Check his Twitter about these former drug cheaters as coaches.

And Alberto is a despicable human being and anyone associated with him should be fucking ashamed. Why is there a thread about these two bickering.
FYI, NotAustin18 is actually pretty reliable when it comes to this topic. Not tooting my own horn or anything, but he may get some of his info from someone who has first hand info... Oh, yea, that's me!!
