So rather than being open and honest which led to his being released, you think he should have remained silent and been hauled off to the slammer? What sense does that make?

It's well known that Dan Harper is crazy. The guy has no personal life whatsoever. Nice guy, but running that morning is more indicative of his borderline personality disorder and unhealthy relationship with running. It's sad because the guy could be in medical school and instead runs crazy amount of mileage and gets marginal returns.
He needs to lift weights and get SWOLE as FUARK. He'll also probably go from being gay to straight almost overnight.

so how long were you in custody for?
also, were you wearing a gps watch? or a road i.d.?
I posted this, but I'm not him... Just used his name in case people happen to have heard of him.
Should've been obvious that OP was not Dan Harper. If you were a Trials hopeful, would you advertise a 14:53 5k?
According to this thread so far, he would've been better off: carrying a gun, refusing to say anything to police, and not running anyway because running ruins your sweet muscles, dude. More great advice from the crack squad here at Letsrun.com.
What a wonderful show of support for your teammate, especially for a guy who puts forth so much effort. Rather than support a guy who works so hard to achieve his goals, no matter how lofty, you criticize him by asserting he has "personality disorder" and is "crazy"? Making an anonymous personal attack against a teammate (or anyone for that matter) shows nothing more than your cowardice. Why don't you tell us all who you are? Ashamed of your actions? Who are you? BAA would be better off without someone like you on the team.

There have been countless gutless, vile posts on letsrun over the years but this one may be the lowest...and that's saying something.
Man, are you a worthless, sniveling little toad.
What he did that morning is no different than a lot of us would have done. Go for a run.
Nobody asked for your gutless and jealous analysis of him or his lifestyle.
I wouldn't even want to imagine what life in your small world entails, you ignorant child.

I'm sorry to hear that this Dan Harper guy turned you down for a date, but it's time to move on.
What exactly do you think borderline personality disorder is, anyway? I can't even begin to imagine how BPD would have anything to do with a guy going for a somewhat ill-advised run.

So making an anonymous personal attack shows cowardice. Got it.
How about you address the substance of what I said?

Not untrue but a little harsh, Malmo, considering the circumstances, and the fact that everybody acts like an idiot some of the time, especially under stress.
I would also say that like attracts like -- some places are simply "idiot magnets."

Yes. I might be an Internet troll but you're a total showerbag.
I think my big issue with this story is: why is it getting so much attention? It's boring. He's a sub-elite (who cares) who went for a run during a crazy paranoid time (who cares) and understandably after sharing a resemblence to a bombing suspect was detained for questioning (who cares). The officers did their job, and then were nice enough to drive him home. And the punchline of the story is that he then went to go finish his run by doing laps around a soccer field. So what?
So, it was a good story.

I did. How about you take a long look in the mirror?
The cops were out of control that day.
10,000 armed police and military on the streets of Boston due to one unarmed, badly injured 19 year old hiding in Watertown.
In addition to the MBTA cop Richard Donahue who was badly injured by "friendly fire", an entire neighborhood in Watertown was shot to pieces in an "exchange of fire" between the cops and an unarmed suspect, I know of at least two other cars that were shot up by cops (fortunately nobody was killed), people were stripped naked and arrested see the videos on youtube showing the arrest of a man who looks a lot like the older Tsarnaev brother but whom we are told is someone else getting arrested that night -- while stripped naked!
The entire city shut down and we allowed the govt to take over our city with armed military personnel while we quaked in our houses watching tv. Boston Strong indeed.
Sorry, dude, but what do you think led to his being released? His being open and honest? No, it was that they found the record of his passport. I'm not saying he has to conceal his identity. But he doesn't have to tell them all about himself and his roommates and his life and his family and his living situation and his entire background and why he was there and where he was going, etc.
Well there was at least one terrorist on the loose. And that terrorist had already used WMDs to kill/maim/injure, not to mention shooting someone in cold blood. And it was believed, and later proved true, that the terrorists had more than those first two bombs and intended to use them. So, a shelter-in-place order seemed very appropriate.

And how did they know about that?
This is generally good advice, but it's awful in the case of mistaken identity. Keeping quiet is just going to make things worse for you, and probably keep you locked up for longer.
