I am soon going to be living on St. John in the US virgin islands for a couple months. Does anyone know anything about running there or possible contacts for running/workout partners?? I am a female D1 college distance runner. thanks

Good luck,
I was there for a week a few years back, it's not a big place but it is all up and down. Not a spot of flat in sight aside from Cruz Bay. The road were very narrow and people drive like maniacs. You will get strong but I would not expect a lot of fast.
I was there in July and it was super humid too. I would suggest running as early in the day as you can. You probably want to check out the trails that the national parks have as there are a few you could get some runs in on.
You may want to see if you can get into one of the resorts (I think there are two or three) to get access to a treadmill. Hop on dirt roads where available and avoid the wild pigs and goats that wander into the roads. I had a nice run from Cruz Bay out to Cocoaloba Point in the south.

Particularly useful is the second one.
Enjoy your time there, it is an incredibly beautiful place.
i lived in st. croix for awhile as peace corp dude and would travel over to the other rocks in the area most weekends i had a chance. st. john is awesome. forget the running and hang out on trunk bay or cinnamon bay. if you must run, the last post sums it up...lots of up and down and narrow roads filled with people who are not used to runners on the road. cruz bay offers some flats, or go to national parks for trail running (again up and down). if you need to get in a track workout take the ferry out of cruz bay to red hook on st. thomas and workout at st. peter and paul high school. there are a couple of fast or former fast dudes that i could hook you up with. they also know everyone and everything there is to running in the usvi, including any local races (usually not more than 50 folks in a race)
good luck mon!
