Well, sorry to disappoint you, but your equation of child-rearing with "not working" is actually really male-centered. Taking care of kids is hard work and necessary work, and we should not look down upon people who decide to do it. Also, "primary caregiver" generally refers to a person who foregoes paid work to take care of a dependent person (child, disabled person, older adult).
In any case, I don't think that writing a book can be equated with not working, or that working as a professional runner means never having had a job.
