Good point, indeed bekele was lazy the last 3 years.
Before it he only won, won and wooon.
The last 3 years have been a good lesson for the champion of champions to get motivated to go for it once agian.
History tells no lies "Kenny dominated"
Now its just time to enter the arena called the Marathon.
Paris is a good starting point because:
-It protects Kenny from a total disaster as he would start in London
-Gives him experience
-the race will be build around him and this will help him to achieve good results
My prediction would be a 2'05 low or 2'04 high. the world record would have to wait for the second or 3rd Marathon.
bekele was 90% perhaps last year and was still getting in shape by OG time, so it would appear with his win in the half over Moe.
now he's got in an incredible training bloc on top.
so if the top marathoners were to compete at 10k now i'd pick bekele to romp home with the win.
with the marathon there are only two questions to ask.
with his sprinters type style of running, what happens to his legs after 20 miles.
same thing with energy. will he die like so many others?
we shall have to wait and see.
certainly if you were on hand to see bekele run 30 miles at 5 minute pace in training, you'd know the answer.

those guys running ~ 2"03-low have to have approaching 26'30 speed to do it
Nobody who has run under 2:04.30 has been in sub 27 shape at the time. The marathon is completely different.
ventolin, you don't need 26:30 speed to run 2:03:23 if you are on EPO. You can hold a much slower speed for a much longer time. The herds of Kenyans running 2:05 and under recently did not get there just by doing longer repeat workouts. In any case, no 2:03 marathoner is doing 26:30 style workouts to prepare for the marathon, so they don't have the speed. Some might be able to run 26:30 in a year they were training for it. High 26s, yes, by June.

Agreed, didn't Haile Gebrselassie run like 26:52 the year he set the world record? And he was a notably fast guy at the shorter distances.
you clearly are clueless if epo is your argument & even if they were on epo, it helps the M but not a 10k !!!
you also seem to have forgotten the recent new york 1/2M which turned out to be effectively a 10k after a jog for 1/2st 1/2
in that, mutai cruised around the last 10k with mo, making little inroad
mo ran that last 10k so damn hard he collapsed after
what does that tell you about mutai's 10k ability ???

utter nonsense
what 10k shape do you think sammy was in when he won '08 gold ???

Sammy never ran 2:04:30 so he could be technically correct.
No one ever runs a WR at their first crack at an event, no matter how good they are in others. My guess is a 2:05:10, 1st Place. If it comes down to a choice between 1st place and WR, I think he'll choose the race.
In the future though, I'd certainly consider him a serious threat to the record.

World Record.
But doesn't win.
(my prediction)
Wait a second...

Bekele, like every other runner, has to discover what a truly different event the marathon is. It takes a few marathons (or many) to really learn how to race it. KB is an exceptional athlete, but he does not have the experience with the distance to break the WR. Hell he might actually su*k at the marathon...he won't know until about mile 20.
10/10. the talk about a new wr is just marketing. we will see.
true: he does have the speed, he will be strong and we know from experience that some elites, "coming back" after a few years of less hard training, were fresh again and stronger than ever before.
but: paris is not a superfast course, the weather is a big player in the game, lack of experience, and most important: i do honestly believe that all runners, also elites, do have a very specific talent for a quite specific distance/event.
