Note that the article says that his agent and Brother Colm pay "a glowing tribute to the athlete," and then there's no glowing tribute. It's either fake or bad journalism. The latter would be standard for The Standard,
Simon Hart @SiHart 47s
Just spoken to David Rudisha's coach, Brother Colm O'Connell. Story about Rudisha quitting athletics is nonsense. Just an April Fool's joke.
They do. This is April's fools people

Yep... 10/10, the Standard
Another Kenyan shooting star. I called it a week ago on that Dibaba thread.
Even their legnds don't have any staying power. They are a quantity nation. Tons and tons of runners, but they never remain elite for more than a few years.
They have far more athletes than Ethiopia, but Ethiopia develops far more legends.
can we talk about implications for april fool's day though?
this a legit day early. that's breaking all kinds of boundaries. Soon someone will do something like this on March 30th, or April 2nd. Then maybe March 24th. April Fools will soon become a year-round phenomenon and nobody will be able to trust anyone ever.

That's what Track and Field News seems to think. They raised the bar for the Brojos for tomorrow.

They sure got me on this one! Rudisha retiring would be world news not just national news! His talent and charisma has no equal.
Athletic weekly quoted the standard. This is fake, all the papers would be carrying it as top news

Considering that Ethiopian population is twice the size of kenya. Kenya is free and open society, people can race as many races as want in a year, ethiopia until recently restricted its runners to few races. Ethiopia seems to be heading the way of Kenya where runners can do what they want when they want, this is starting to show.
Two days ago he had a status on his facebook page: The joy of winning - can't wait to get back on the track (or something similar). Now his facebook page is gone. Only information page.
If this IS a April Fool joke, it is one of the best. Hats off to David and Colm.
Really is a shame. He was the only one I thought had a chance to break 1:40. It'll be a long time before we see someone like him again.
