Former NAU 28:20 guy Bo Reed "arrested on eight counts of sexual conduct with a minor" - 17 yr old he coached

Regg, Did you not see where I wrote "I don't condone any man or woman having sex with a student"? I don't coach girls swimming or any other sport and swimming is a whole other discussion having nothing to do with running or Bo Reed.

I am a concerned parent of a runner and I DO NOT CONDONE ANY MAN OR WOMAN HAVIG SEX WITH A STUDENT. This applies to ALL students and teachers, whether it involves a sport or a classroom. The high schools need to step up and protect our children, boys and girls! How they dress can be regulated.

He got caught because of facebook messages he sent (genius) and there were rumors around here that it had been ongoing for a couple of years? not sure if that's true, but that puts her at 15...

However, her age doesn't matter in this case. As a high school coach (or teacher), it doesn't matter if the girl is an 18 year old super model. You are her high school coach and there are boundaries that you cannot cross while in that position. You have been hired by the school/school district and have had faith and trust placed upon you to help guide, instruct, and teach young men and women. Having any kind of sexual relationship with them is a violation of that trust and unacceptable conduct in such circumstances.

So what happened? Was he found guilty?

I remember an NAU top runner having problems when at NAU. I'm sure it was Bo. Wasn't eligible at the start of one season after being busted for theft. Was when they had him and Mark Suza as there best runners. I was in the Big Sky at the time and finished just behind the two of them at Big Sky one year.

All I can find is that he plead not guilty last spring. Did he get a plea deal?

I hope so as it's not one of those things where the crime deserves time...

Not to mention the part about some girls on the team turning him in. See what jealousy does?

Bo has plead guilty. He will be sentenced in January sometime.

I believe at the high school level it is an actual crime to date a high school student if you are a coach or teacher. Had he just been a regular older guy banging a 17 y/o it would be a non-issue since she's age of consent.

At the college level it will most likely get you fired but it is not illegal. Some colleges do not have a specific rule against those relationships they are "frowned upon". There are actually several college coaches married to their former athletes. Happens all the time.

It isn't sad he ruined his life. He made the conscience decision to ruin a 17 year old girl's life. Some of these posts proclaiming a 17 year old girl is physically mature so the coach's behavior is fine are ridiculous. So what if she is "physically" mature? Science has proven the brain doesn't mature until the age of 25. Teenagers are notorious for making poor decisions based on a lack of life experience. It is up to the 48 year old to be the "adult" in this situation. Not to mention, he is in a position of authority, which makes it even worse.

My daughter was on a team with a pervert for a coach. He constantly texted, called, and made inappropriate remarks to the girls. He especially loved to prey on girls who didn't have a father in their lives. In addition, he didn't want any of the girls on the team to have a boyfriend. Though fired from one school for his inappropriate behavior, for some unknown reason, my daughter's school administrators hired him when she was a junior. Fortunately, enough parents complained and the "man" was fired.

Any coach/teacher - male or female - who abuses their authority by becoming sexually involved with a student/athlete - deserves no sympathy. It is disgusting.

Having sex with a 17 year old is a menace to society? This sentence should have been at worst probation. 6 years? The average time served for murder in the US is only 7 years!
