I think this gal is a beast and could take down Cain's outdoor 5K record. I think that Cain and AlSal just wanted to get the Q for a 5k as a back up.

Both her 1500m and mile races were during championship phases... although, given the difference between indoor championships and outdoor championships, I'd guess she was training more for endurance during this winter than she was last summer (indoors probably being a secondary "peak" for Salazar, with outdoors being the main focus).
How is outdoors a primary focus when the only world championship is during indoor? Didn't Salazar even say that they were focused on indoor this year? They were all training for speed. Did you miss how Rupp was trying to break the indoor mile record?

Because outdoors follows indoors. There may not be an outdoor world championship this year, but that doesn't mean they're going to just not compete during the summer.
I also never said they weren't "training for speed". However, if this isn't the ultimate peak to their season, then they are probably not focusing as much on "training for speed" as they were last summer for the outdoor championships (which was the last season for that year).
And in that light, running a mile indoors of essentially the same caliber as a 1500m last summer, when they were probably even more focused on speed work than they are right now, would indicate improved fitness (because while she's obviously race ready, she isn't in the final phase of her training this year), further indicating the possibility that she could run better for 5k now than she could last year (on top of the fact that she pretty much just cruised that 5k last year in order to get the Q mark incase she needed it).
by the way, is Cain eligible for World Juniors? I don't think she turns 20 before the end of the year, so I would think she would be eligible for that (if she wanted to compete in it)... unless competing in the senior meet last year means she can't race at the junior meets anymore?
She is the current #2 Junior in the world in the 1500m (Senbere Teferi ran 4:04.55 last year)
She is the current #1 Junior but would have a challenge in the 800m (Jessica Judd ran 1:59.85 last year, and Aníta Hinriksdóttir is also within a second at 2:00.49)
She is only be #7 in the 3k and I think #12 in the 5k?
Your lack of reading comprehension is exhausting. Goodbye.
There is a World Championship outdoors for Mary - World Juniors in Eugene. Why is it that SO many Americans are oblivious to this meet? Thank god it is in Eugene, or based on the people on this site the attendance would be negligible.
She can always go after World Junior records in the summer as well, or if one wants to ignore The Chinese and East German records she can always go after Zola Budd's times as a Junior - 3.59.9 1500, 4.17 Mile (=3.58 1500), 8.28 3000m or 14.48 5000m.
Mary Cain birthday is May 3 1996 so she is a Junior in intill 2915. So she has this year and the next to set Jr records.
Good, Barrett's record has not gone unnoticed...
5 (probably more) great HS girls middle distance runners this year... Barrett being one of them...

What is wrong with you? Are you blind? Did you not read anything in my post? Especially the part about her not actually having run faster than her time last year? And then the part about how Salazar's group sacrifices endurance for speed during championships?
1) no I'm not blind but thanks for asking
2) her mile time was actually .09 faster than her best 1500 in 2013 so you're wrong any way you slice it.
3) she won that 4:24 race whereas she barely lost her 4:04.
4) as I said everyone knows she was in even better shape than her 4:24 based on her 4:27 going out in a jog (for her) Cain was in around 4:20-4:22 shape.
5) she ran 9:38 last year indoors (8:56 equiv) when she only went 4:28, she also had championships last year and managed that time.
6) if you think her endurance hasn't improved since last year...not sure what to say. She wasn't slacking off since outdoor track...she has more speed and endurance obviously.
16:11.85?
Thanks for letting us know to the hundredth of a second.

Did you miss that Rupp DID crush the 5k record in his first race and could have gone even faster, and challenged the WR in the 2mile before fading for a nice AR there as well. So not sure why you think going for the AR in the mile is relevant. He ran less short raves this indoors than others.
Not sure if it has been noticed, but Tessa Barrett also won the 2-mile at NBIN in 10:08 the following day. Pretty impressive. 2-time national champion.

Yes, we all know that - but next year (2015) she will also be focused on World Outdoors, and trying to get on the podium, in advance of 2016 (Rio). Not to say that she can't go after records then as well, and hopefully more easily than this year, but it may not be her priority. World Juniors should be a slam-dunk, but still nice to win a world championship (something she has yet to achieve), while being able to get into Diamond league races and run fast with adult (Aregawi and Dibaba) competition, as Budd did to run her times.
She didn't do world youth last year (which she most likely would have won easily) as she did World Seniors instead.

You're not sure why because you don't know what you're talking about.
If you are even thinking about going for a record in a speed event like the mile, then it means you have been focused on speed.
The 5k record was soft and because it is a middle event (between the mile and the 10k), it doesn't show whether or not he was speed focused or endurance focused. Never mind the fact that he ran it slower than his outdoor PR. No, indoor times are not necessarily slower than outdoor times. That's why NOP picked the tracks that they did.
What does how many short races he ran vs others have to do with anything? Nothing.
The 5k record was soft but he also crushed it and demonstrated he was in sub 13 shape easily in his first race of the year. But you're right...that didn't demonstrate endurance....it doesn't matter if indoors is faster or slower, your first race of the year is not going to be your fittest. Fact is every running record indoors is slower for men, outdoors is always the biggest focus, even in an off year like 2014.
The fact that you think Cain was in 16 min 5k shape just shows you're unable to grasp....anything...
Oh, and again she did run her fastest time ever at the 1500/mile this indoors, just wanted to make sure you grasped that...but probably not.
Abbey ran 15:11 last outdoor season. Please do not even put Tessa in the same sentence as Abbey.
Worst poster of the year? Isisk, you don't get it so just stop while you're way behind.
