I know this is easy for me to say, but the ultimate classy move for Osagie in this case would be to go up on the podium, receive the medal, then walk by Lewandowski and casually toss the medal to him. Then go home and train hungry as ever.

Tend to agree.
My opinion of Osagie has gone down in my estimation due to his obvious glee that Marcin stepped inadvertently inside the lane. I wouldn't want to win a medal in this way and a classy athlete wouldn't have pursued it. Didn't like the BBC commentators getting all excited over a possible disqualification either.
If the Pole had actually infringed Osagie, that would be different.
I hope Marcin gets his revenge in the summer.
Really sad....unfortunately I think it took hard on Marcin he used to be fast on commenting bad or good races on his fb now it's silence.
Found just one brief comment from him in polish newspaper that he felt when crossing finish line that he stepped out of the track and was unsure if he get a medal or DQ.
I feel that the rule shall be changed, don't know how to make it really fair. I thought it could be like "if there is no gain for an athlete" but it's not perfect it will leave very much up to judges open for 100 of opinions.
What do you think guys?
It's not good for the sport because crowd sees a guy crossing the line in medal position in a fair race and after a while he/she is DQ...most of the ppl can't understand...they're confused.

The Brits have pulled this kind of crap several times. Maybe somebody should give them some of their own medicine, but it's too later in this case.
England has to get medals however it can since transfusions were banned.

So you don't know what a disadvantage it is to sprint on the inside lane (let alone inside of it) of an indoor track?
I absolutely do not believe that a single step inside the line on the curve makes up a difference of .01 sec between 3rd and 4th.
Someone do the math.

more rules: pay attention to "material advantage"
h. In races run partially in lanes, each competitor must keep in the allotted
lane from the start to the marked cut-in points. Unless a material advantage has been
gained or the athlete is in violation of Rule 163.4, a competitor shall not be disqualified if
he or she:
(a) Is pushed or forced by another competitor to step out of the lane, or
(b) Steps out of the lane on the straightaway, or
(c) Steps or runs outside of the outer lane line on the curve, or on any straight part of the
diversion from the track for the steeplechase water jump.
Excluding the above exceptions, the Referee shall disqualify a competitor if an Umpire
reports that the competitor has stepped out of the lane.
NOTE: Material advantage includes improving position by any means, including exiting
from a 'boxed' position in the race by having stepped or run inside the inside edge of the
track
Lewandowski is a deadly finisher, flat out.
Note: I dislike Balotelli...
Common sense says if there was no advantage, there should be no DQ.
Reason #231 why this sport is dying.

Haha he has that 'oh sh*t' look on his face like he knows that he just fudged up.
None of those exceptions applied, material advantage or not. The infraction was inside on the curve, and unforced. That's why the rule should be changed to allow more exceptions when there's no material advantage.
[(200 meters)/(27 seconds)]*(0.01 seconds) = 0.074 meters, or 7.4 cm
So if the Pole ran 7.4cm less as a result of stepping inside the line, the DQ was justified.
Not the most accurate assessment ever, but it gives a good idea of what kind of advantage could potentially be gained.
For something like this, I'm for time penalties rather than DQ. For example, someone runs on a line, add .1 seconds to their time. Would have moved Lewandowski out of medal position this time, but not removed him from the race. If the infraction is some sort of obstruction, it would still be a DQ, but an innocuous mistake could be a time penalty.
In the sprints, if someone false starts, I think they should move their blocks back 5 meters.
As a Brit I was not happy with this at all. Osagie ran a poor tactical race and lost a medal as a result of this. The Pole did step off the track for one stride - ie one foot touched the infield momentarily - but this in no way helped him. The slow motion shots showed him semi stumble as a result of his actions.
Osagie should not have mentioned it - his frustration at his poor race probably got the better of his judgement in the post race interview - but the team management should certainly have told him to forget about any official protest. Are we so "target driven" in our approach to major championships that ANY way of getting hold of medals is OK? That way all sorts of demons lie!! What else are we prepared to do or not to do in order to win medals?
You can go out of your lane in the 100 and 60 as long as you don't impede anyone...you clearly don't know the rules, but yes the brits are the international equivalent of salazar when it comes to protests
