I actually think Rupp could be a great 1500 runner. The only thing we can take from today though is that Largest can beat Rupp in a 100m sprint after a 2900m jog. These races are really terrible.

On what basis would you say that? He has run second and 4th in the 10000 in the OG and WC.. His 10000 pr is way better than his 5000 and 1500 pr
A finishing place is not a finishing time. How do you not understand that? You don't need a strong 10k ability to win the 10k nowadays. It's just a jogfest.
The basis is that Rupp has specifically been targeting 1500m and 3000m records. That requires sacrificing some 10k endurance in order to gain speed. He couldn't even break 13:00 this season. He is clearly optimized for shorter distances right now.

another fact... wrote:you forgot #7: lagat has NEVER raced rupp at rupp's best distance..
The 1500/3k are Rupp's best distances right now. And Lagat just beat him twice.
This^^
Rupp's 26:48 is the best performance he has even done... He crushed the previous AR of 26:59 which Solinsky's 26:59 crushed the previous record of 27:13... 27:13-26:48 is a 25 second difference, how is he a 1500/3k guy right now? Does he have a 15 indoor or outdoor record? No Lagat has them, does he have a 3k outdoor record? No Lagat has it, all he has is the 3k indoor and he only broke that record by 2 seconds. How many people have better Rupp's 26:48? Not many... How many people have crushed his 3:34, 7:30 15/3k PR's plenty. Comparatively it's obvious that his 10k is the best, so I'm not sure what you were thinking when you posted that
I think that you guys are missing the key point here. Lagat is 39y3mts old... Rupp is the indoor 3000m US record holder and he was 4th at the WC (he's very good at the 3000m)
Lagat beat him a few weeks ago (but we thought it was because of the altitude)
He has just beaten him again...
It's insane.
What does Rupp need to do?
Rupp is turning 28 soon... Time is now his enemy...
The world record at 5000m was run by a 21 y.o.
Even Geb (who is still running very well in his 40s) ran his best 5000m when he was in his mid 20s

To be exact 15 people have better PRs than Rupp. Plus his best has been bettered 28 times. He is definitely elite but not one of the all-time greats. He has had a career similar to Johnny Gray's. Except until a few years ago Johnny's best was inside the top 10 all time. Yet even with those credentials only a few would consider Gray an all-time great

Gray is an all-time great 800m runner. He still holds the US 800m record...set 29 years ago!
When Gray ran his still-standing AR in 1985, there were only 3 people faster: Coe, Cruz, and Sammy Koskei. His time was within a second of Coe (also true of Steve Scott in the 1500), while Rupp doesn't stand a chance in hell of approaching Bekele's times. Gray's 29-year-old time still outranks Rupp, just as, almost 18 years later, Bob Kennedy outranks Rupp in the 5000.
Rupp is not now, and never will be, what Johnny Gray was in his time.

Right, because Rupp has a silver, and Gray has a mere bronze, so Rupp will always be better.
hey 800 analyzer,
The last 1000m was 2:22. Not exactly what you described.
