Canada would invade the US if AlSal tried that.

Levins is on the upswing, as evidenced by that post-race workout, which was impressive (53-4s). But he struggled a bit in the prelim, unlike Rupp. And for him to beat Rupp here would essentially be to announce that he is leaving the training group. Al clearly could not handle that emotionally. I'm even surprised they are in the same event. What is to be noted is that American indoors was at altitude and altitude-born and trained runners always have an advantage, even if Rupp sleeps in an altitude tent (most of his hours are not spent in that). So, the fact that Lomong could dust him when he was sick in Abq the last time and that Lagat would do it as well this year when Rupp was healthy shouldn't stop you from recalling that Rupp last year ran 7:30i and took some serious scalps in the process. I don't think that he yet has the championship mentality necessary to take gold. But he will be in the running for the medals in a tough field with Ndiku (3:29!), Gebrhiwet, Lagat, and the other Ethiopian runner.
Levins is not remotely in Rupp's league.

Haha - probably true. I was not being serious, but I do not think that Cam will get Galen. I am guessing that Galen takes 3rd with Levins in the 6th-8th range.

No way that this happens. If their training indicated that Cam had a shot at Rupp, then AlSal would not have allowed Cam to participate.
The fact that Salazar took on Farah runs counter to your assertion. Moser and Cain go head to head competition routinely, which also counters your assertion.

I believe Rupp has a better shot at a medal than Cam, but I don't think that either one is specifically targeting the other. Their target is to get the most out of themselves to place as high as they can.
Aw, mom.

In all seriousness, I'm rarely interested in the indoor season and wasn't even aware that Levins was even running in the event until this thread, so I don't know of any evidence that would suggest any potential performances of either runner.
Soooo...you are ignorant to the facts? Why not just shut up then?

"YOU COST KARA THE WIN. Oh, you got the A-time by 0.1 seconds?"
Was Levins in that race?
didn't notice levins at all.
Al brought in Farah because he served a new big market for Nike and even more because he was necessary to bring Rupp up to medal quality. He needed that kind of competition to bring his level up, and it worked, but you can't bring in the Bekeles to take all three medals away from Rupp and you can't have Levins be anything more than training fodder. That plan may be spoiled within a year or two, however Levins is not there just yet. I'd like to see Levins in the 1500m this year. He showed great speed in his workout.
Er.....ooops.
This is why I've only once predicted a race here, and was wrong, lol, it's hard to predict these things.

Kudos to you for taking your medicine like a man.

Good effort, OP, but no cigar this time.
This is a stupid thread. Common sense would lead anyone to believe Levins wouldn't have a chance of getting at Rupp.
Did any of Gabe's spastic inside pass" critics notice Rupp's inside pass?

Let's see if II can predict the race.
Levins will sit in the back to start ( in the last 3). He'll move up a bit in the middle of the race. However, when the racing starts in the last 800m, he will get gapped by a few meters. When the "real" racing starts in the last 400m, he will fall off some more.
Hope I'm wrong...
Unfortunately I was not wrong. For those of you who missed Levins in the race, that's pretty much how it went. See my prediction above...

No need to pay up. I was mostly just wondering whether your really believed what you were saying.:)

Because in the context of my original post, the actual facts were not necessary to address the faulty logic in the claim.
The OP proposed that because Levins had performed well in the directly previous race (2000m indoor CR), and because Rupp seemed to have a difficult time in the directly previous race (USAs), Levins would perform better at the world championships.
Knowing exactly what Rupp and Levins have done this season is completely irrelevant to disproving this idea. All runners have poor races, and all runners have fantastic races, meaning that they are constantly "flip-flopping" between the two. Again, Manzano, Centro, and Bekele are examples. They've both gone from a spectacular race to bombing a race or vice versa in quick succession.
The fact that Levins was a total non-factor just backs this further. Rupp basically performed as he was expected to. He was 4th at Outdoor Worlds in the event he focused on, and here he is 4th again. And Levins also performed as expected (i.e. Worse than Rupp), considering he is quite honestly a runner whose caliber is not at the level of Rupp's.
I didn't watch a single indoors race and only knew the results of USAs from looking at a statement on the front page and I could predict the finishing order between these two.
