I was just glancing through an old T&FNews 93' 800m list

the 4X800m was that broken?
The 4 x 800 I'm pretty sure is still 7:13 by Arizona State. I can remember vividly reading about this race in Tnd F news, I think it was set at The Sun Devil Relays and anchored by the Golden child mile prospect Mike Stahr who was prematurely touted as the next Seb Coe. As a freshman he ran a blistering 1:45.8 anchor. Then he transferred to Georgetown when it was discovered that Steve Scott went and stayed in his home when he was being recruited.
I'll also never forget the 87 DMR with Stahr, Miles Irish, and Troutmann when they broke the WR in one of the most exciting track races I've ever watched.
Are you sure Stahr transferred to G-town? I thought he went there from the start.
I remember that...I may be wrong but the 400m leg was like a 47 high? help me out.
What a race that was. This is what I remember.
The big guns were Arkansas(of course), Villanova, Indiana, Georgetown, and Mount Saint Mary's. The skies were overcast and it had rained during the day.
The 1200 was scorching from the start-led by either Cherouiyiot or Rono in 2:50 or even 2:49. Georgetown with freshman John Trautmann was gapped big even with Trautmann's 2:54 leg. Arkansas was just ahead of Georgetown.
Then one of the greatest relay legs ever when Roddie Haley of Arkansas took to baton and got them back in it with a 43.9 that sent the crowd in a frenzy. Georgetown was barely hanging on with their 47 leg.
Then another great couragueous leg when Miles Irish took the stick and got them right back in it with a 1:46.
At thies point I was focused on the Georgetown team and Villanavo. Stahr and Gerry o"Reilly with the anchor leg. I think Consiglio faded pretty quick and the Mount Anchor had the lead. But it came down to the Stahr/O'Reilly battle with Stahr hanging on for the win-3:54-3:55 leg. And a new World Record.
Arkansas took the world record again 2 years later.
those were the days, baby ... man, I'd forgotten about Rocket Roddie Haley. Great nickname and great runner who didn't last that long after college.
I once saw that guy run 500m right at a minute on a 180m track. Absolutely AMAZING.
