Sorry rekrunner--"No athlete or journalist has voiced the least suspicion about Lagat"? You don't know what you're talking about.
About a year ago I spoke to a friend of mine who is a former American Record holder and indoor world champion. I asked about Lagat--how is it that he's not just running fast, but out kicking some young guns in his late 30s. Without hesitation my friend told me that it's common knowledge amongst top level runners that Lagat is dirty. My friend wasn't trying to impress anyone with some dark secret--he made it clear that in the highest level circles, athletes are very aware of what's going on around them.
As a track fan, it really bothered me to watch all those fans scream and cheer for Lagat at USATF Indoors, knowing that he's dirty.
It is true that Lagat comes across as a very friendly guy, and many fans want him to be clean. Like one poster said, it seems highly unlikely that he will get caught. Nevertheless, I cannot bring myself to cheer for him. And the fact that a known cheat is able to beat the tests only makes me more skeptical of those athletes who have rumors surrounding them, especially when it's other athletes whispering....
