“Unfortunately I will not be able to travel to the IAAF World Indoor Championships in Sopot,” Cain said in a statement. “Over the past week, I developed a discomfort in my lower calf. I had an MRI scan on Saturday and it was all clear, but I still feel the pain when I wear spikes and have decided not to risk making it worse in Poland. I hope to be able to run in the World Indoor Championships many times in the future. I wish all my fellow USA athletes the best and hope they bring home lots of medals from Poland.”

anybody else thinking that this might have something to do with centro maybe testing positive?
Whoa did I miss something? When did Centro test positive? I mean I think all of Salazar's team is dirty but I'd like for them to get caught.

read the centro centro centro thread... and for clarity it's still speculation, I did say maybe... I hope mc is clean she's a great talent! I hope centro is too but i'm not sold till there's an official announcement...
So apparently athletes can no longer get injured without pulling out?
Cuz you know it would be really really hard to have out of competition testing for world championship qualifiers regardless if they end up going or not.
Mostly I just wonder if the trolls on this forum really believe that they would give PEDs to a minor, with her dad being a Dr and all.
Everybody relax. she probably slipped on ice, or got overwhelmed with all of her responsibilities and made herself sick.
It really says something about the cynicism of the Lets Run community that so many posters immediately jump to the conclusion that a 17 year old girl who attends a normal high school and lives at home must be doping because she pulled out of worlds. This sport will never get any traction in the broader media markets if we continue to cannibalize our biggest and brightest stars.
this better not be one of those tainted supplement deals. Why any athlete takes any supplement of any kind, I have no idea.

This doesn't pass the smell test. She has a sore calf, but a clean MRI, a week out from the race, and decides not to go? Sore spots usually go away as quickly as they come on, and this is a World Championship. You don't just give up that opportunity. I'd bet that if you asked (for example) Lopez Lomong or Will Leer if they would pull out of Worlds because of a little niggle they would laugh and say "absolutely not". Heck German Fernandez ran World Cross a couple of years ago even though he was in a boot when he got off the plane.
Apparently it's not a serious injury so it will be a fast recovery. With as big an event as a world championshionship that is a tough decision to make, but she did make the correct one.
Did she run a post-announcement workout?

You really have no idea why athletes taken supplements? You really can't think of a reason? Do you also have difficulty figuring out why athletes even bother eating food too?
Your inclusion of German Fernandez is a perfect example of why pulling out with a minor injury might just be the smartest thing you can do. How has German's career been since?
She is young. No sense in risking some major injury at this point.
+1 she's done crazy workouts all season. All she needs to do now is some light jogging and a few 200's to stay quick. How could she suddenly get THAT severely injured? She's not running a marathon, it's less than a mile. Lopez ran through the desert without shoes on for his life, and look where he is now.
This is an indoor wc, which in the grand scheme of Mary Cain's potential doesn't mean shit.
Salazar and his group are exceedingly cautious when it comes to injury, as seen with Rupp and the alterG and generally crazy approach to things.
Mary Cain wants to have a long career where she wins Olympic and Outdoor WC gold medals, she isn't going to risk all of that for a chance to get a silver or bronze indoor wc medal at 17.

You can't compare her to adults much later in their pro track career who got caught doping. If she was caught in 5 years as a true pro I wouldn't be shocked, but as a high schooler who's 16 or 17 years old?!? I can't believe Al Sal is crazy enough to have her doping already when she's still living in her parents house and doesn't have access to his daily testing or whatever else.
Aren't there high schoolers who dope just to make their high school team?
This
If german fernandez wasnt an idiot with training through injuries he moght have been a 12:50 guy witha great kick but nope had to win the meets..
THEY'RE ALL GOING DOWN
I'm not a MC groupie but she is not on drugs. Why would the NOP test negative when tested here and positive at worlds?

why the SPECULATION of doping.
runners really do get injured, it happens.
some injuries happen instantly.
some happen gradually.
no need for doping allegations.
