Well okay I was trying to stick to realistic possibilities here...
Unreal the number of folks here with sufficiently low IQs to actually take anything about this thread seriously.
Un-f'in-believable.
Daily reminder that the OP of this thread is quite possibly the greatest troll in LR history. Over 650 posts, input from the site creators, a warranted call to the agent of an elite athlete and a twitter message from the elite athlete himself. Can anyone think of any examples that top this?
The Centro fans are besides themselves. They have been working overtime in a vain attempt to kill this entire thread. It must be nice having a big company as your sugar-daddy paying you to troll these forums.
If this thread was merely a libelous or slanderous claim, with no credibility whatsoever. It would likely be the case that someone at "some company" with a legal department full of lawyers and para-legals would have already crafted a "cease and desist" letter and delivered it to the LetsRun.com global headquarters. The thread would then be quickly deleted and the moderators would quickly delete any and all attempts to re-post, as they are infamously known to do. However, this has not been the case - the thread remains active and that should be an obvious indication that something is amiss in the NOP camp.
Seems like the moderator is leaving it up to not show partiality to one side. It would be even more suspicious for this thread to go deleted when dozens of other athletes are left undefended from this bullshit I guess. It would feel like only certain people are being watched after on the message boards. :)
Lagat was unfairly accused of being a drug cheat. Even though he was completely exonerated, many still believe he is a drug cheat. See the similarity? I said the Centro situation is to a much "different degree" ( a false "breaking news" story on letsrun vs an incorrect drug test) , didn't I? Yes. Nevertheless, the fact remains that there are people out there, BECAUSE OF THIS THREAD, that now believe Centro might be dirty. Laugh if you will, but yes, people are that stupid and want to believe the worst. Letsrun played their game where they allowed the thread to remain for quite awhile before even issuing a statement. It really seemed that they believed there might be some truth to it. This alone will make some people say: where there was even a LITTLE smoke, there must be some fire. Every person on here saying ....."you know, there could something going on here, some cover-up" (see: Coach D) is not a troll. Some really believe it.
But I am glad you know for absolute certainty that no damage whatsoever has been done to his image. Combine baseless accusation against Salazar and Rupp with these about Centro, and there are probably a large number of people that now think Centro is a drug cheat. And yes, that probably matters to him, and yes, it all starts with rumors and lies. Sure, that's life, but we shouldn't support it, and a running site like letsrun should not enable/or even promote such behavior.

Yeah, LR leaves all anonymous lies and gossip mongering posts up to be fair to all unfairly slandered on this joke of a site. As the JO Brothers so self-servingly and repeatedly say, letting liars lie on their site helps reduce doping in the sport.
What a f'ing cesspool!
Agreed ..
To the Brojos .. why did you remove the post that caused all the ruckus, then leave the posts immediately following it that quote the post .. so, the post isn't really gone, it's all still online.
And if you agree that should've been removed, what is the point of leaving this thread online?

You don't get it. The name of the thread is what can change. There is an active discussion about gray zone product use in this thread.
The USADA and WADA are actively working to ban athletes who use gray zone products. The first gray zone product being targeted appears to be Xenon gas. It is not illegal to use according to the rules, but recently the USADA and WADA decided they have authority to ban athletes who use the gas. Things are just starting to get interesting.
Should the USADA and WADA be allowed to ban a product without telling anyone they have done so, and then impose bans on athletes who used the product? This is not fair, but it certainly does look like what the USADA and WADA are going to try.
What does that have to do with a troll making up a false allegation about an innocent athlete? A thread titled "CENTRO!!!!! CENTRO!!! CENTRO!!!!!!" should not be the place for a discussion about grey zone doping.
wejo made some comment suggesting Lance Armstrong's case shows false accusation should be fair game. The difference is that Lance Armstrong failed a test for cortisone in his first TdF win which was covered with a TUE. This was acknowledged in a press conference following his win. It was therefore logical to discuss that this might have been a backdated prescription and the UCI were complicit in covering up a doping program for him, particularly considering the huge scandal in 1998.
Using a baseless troll thread to stir up a rumor that Centro failed a test is nothing like that situation.
"It’s our word against his word. I like our word. We like our credibility. Floyd lost his credibility a long time ago." — Armstrong’s response to cyclist Floyd Landis' accusations of systemic doping in the U.S. Postal cycling team.
"I'll say to the people who don’t believe in cycling, the cynics and the skeptics. I'm sorry for you. I'm sorry that you can't dream big. I'm sorry you don't believe in miracles. But this is one hell of a race. This is a great sporting event and you should stand around and believe it. You should believe in these athletes, and you should believe in these people. I'll be a fan of the Tour de France for as long as I live. And there are no secrets — this is a hard sporting event and hard work wins it. Vive Le Tour." — Armstrong after winning his seventh straight Tour de France.
Hi, I'm another who cannot separate the crimes of Lance Armstrong from everything else in the world! Pleased to meet you. I thought I was the only other righteous one on these boards. Now there are two of us. Are there more?
I'm with you on. Anyone suspected of doping can no longer plead innocent or ask for fairness due to the Armstrong Clause. All cases will from now be treated as the same and Letsrun will back us up on this.
Who should we go after next? What's Torrence up to? Has he run fast lately? Or no, wait, what about that Rich Peters kid? That was quite a jump. I even heard he had a Livestrong bracelet once.
God is with us, we are right, and nobody shall prosper furthermore.
As many have pointed out there is a big difference between discussing the possibility that someone may be doping to stating that someone has failed a test.
There is also a big difference between the Armstrong and Centro situations and Armstrong should not be used to justify someone stating Centro has failed.
Armstrong was a run of the mill Tour De France guy who returned from Cancer and destroyed everyone else in a notoriously dirty sport including guys that were subsequently banned for doping (Ulrich, Pantani etc). There was his failed test for the testosterone cream and the article in the French paper when they were introducing the test for EPO and were using cyclists to see if the test worked. A Journalist managed to put together the samples with peoples name and Armstrong came out as someone who would have failed the test if it had been introduced at that point. These facts and various others gave people every reason to discuss that Armstrong may have been doping.
Stating that someone like Centro has failed a test is totally different to the above. People keep raising the Lance situation in comparison to NOP which is unfair at this stage without any real evidence of taking banned substances when there was plenty in the Armstrong situation (note that thyroid hormone is not on the banned list and you do not even need a TUE for it).
Why is the focus always on NOP when there are plenty of other Americans who are just as suspect. Why all the focus on Rupp taking thyroid hormone and almost zero discussion about Ryan Hall or Bob Kennedy taking it. I'm all for clearing out cheats from the sport including NOP if they are dirty but this site has lost all impartiality in terms of reporting and seems to have a vendetta against certain individuals and favour others who are every bit as suspect.
There is likely truth to the rumor that any athlete who is known to use an altitude tent or inhalators is being closely looked at by the WADA and USADA for use of Xenon gas in them to boost EPO. NOP is the biggest running program there is. They are at the top of food chain. WADA and the USADA are likely looking at everyone who might use an altitude tent or inhalators. Russia has been opened about their use of Xenon gas and believe it is not against the rules so there is nothing wrong with using it. The UK claims they don't think any of their athletes use Xenon gas.Looking into a Xenon gas as a gray zone product is not limited to one athlete, one group, or a single country. This is international.

So to summarize:
1) Someone decided that it would be fun to make up a rumor about Centro
2) Defenders of Centro and others who just don't like unsubstantiated rumors allowed themselves to get all worked up about it
3) The original someone, together with a few more trolls, thought this was great fun and decided to just keep throwing out substance-free posts whenever things slowed down
4) Defenders keep unwittingly playing along
Have I missed anything?
You missed the gray zone.
I know for a fact that WADA already created a new test for the Xenon.
It's over Alberto. It's over.
If Xenon is being banned and it is banned retroactively it is over for a lot more people than just Alberto. There is no reason to pick on him, the use of Xenon seems to be on an international basis, and for a news source I read it has been in use for about 10-years.
