Wow, listening to you guys harp on Solinski in this thread is worse than listen to A Duck.
+1
Yeah, Mo and Bekele are f*cking scrubs. Joho is the only one to mention the top guys doing the EXACT SAME THING.
Actually, it was Rupp who got destroyed in the last 800m in the "dinky/small" meet that was a big showcase for AlSal and the Golden Boy. He went 60-56 solo and Rupp got dropped.
+1. Teg has run really well and had a really good career. Seems like he's always been quick to work hard and not complain. But the last few years have probably been harder and even he said his body isn't up to the task as much anymore. No pop like when he was 25 or something like that. Dude has been at it for so long, if he retired today, I wouldn't drag him through the mud at all.
But as usual, you guys will find any reason to hate on Solinski. I'm a fan. It was awesome watching him run sub 13 all those times in Europe. It's motivating to see a bigger guy run that fast and that you don't need to be 110 lbs and 5 for 3 to do it.
Big difference between was and is. This is a what have you done lately sport. Solinsky was....Webb was....They're both done.
Someone should have told Tsegaye Mekonnen Asefa with his 13:44 5000m, 29:33 10km, and 62:53 half that he needed a competitive 10k to rip off his 2:04.
I'm surprised that no one mentioned (unless I missed it) that part of why Solinsky's sub 27 10k was so magical was that it was his first race attempt at that distance - and he only had a 13:12 pr. It was also set pretty early in the season (early May).

No it's not. That statement doesn't even make sense.

And he credited the improvement to marathon training with Bairu & Nelson. It might turn out to be a good distance for him.
Solinsky is a little over 20 pounds too much. Carrying around too much weight. I often wonder what he could run if he was 140-145. I guess we will never know now that his prime is well behind him.

Solinsky is not even close to being a sub 27 runner now so you might as well pretend that practically didn't happen when it comes to predicting his Marathon potential.
This^^
You guys are acting like Chris is still in 26:59 shape and he's not. He ran a 8:03 3k I think last indoor season, his 13:23 wasn't half bad from Payton Jordan (still doesn't equate to sub-27 10k), and he opened up this season somewhere between 8:00-8:10 again I think. 8:00 3k pace alone is 13:20 5k pace which is 26:40 10k pace, right now he can barely Handel 26:59 10k pace for a 3k so he's not in any good shape enough as it is compared to his past accolades.
The 2nd thing is... Why not? I think he need to spend this year doing some marathon training, getting his high mileage base up, run a couple 10k's and half's to get some speed under his belt and make his marathon debut. He could probably make the 2016 team. Why? As someone mentioned earlier he was going to eventually move up, but his injuries caused him to do it a couple years earlier and also in 2010 when he ran 12:55 and 26:59 he was doing 120-130mpw so he's probably burnt out from all the mileage enough as it is. With the high base he had doing 10k training he'll get some benefits in it for the marathon. Look at his build, he could rip the first 15 miles without even stressing.
Would he ever make a US team again?
1500m- he's not a speed guy, too many guys who can close in a 52,53 last lap and he can't
3k steeple- not a steeples, Jäger, Huling, Cabral got that locked up
5k- Lagat might still be around, but if not Rupp, Bumbi, both Heaths, Hill, Lamong, Leer, that's 7 guys right there I know he can't beat in a 5k, just look at all their 3k indoor PR's
10k- okay, so his best chance, but you have Rupp (shoe in), Derrick (kid is on a streak right now), Dathan (I've been surprised his past 2 seasons, he is really showing he still has that 5k, 10k speed), Tegenkamp (the guy could step down to the 10k at still be competitive, he made the 2012 Olympic team, don't forget that), Bumbi (didn't have such a good 10k debut, but he could be stepping up in a couple years (need to stick to the 5k though)), True (had a break out year last year (3:42, 13:12, 6th pace at World Cross))
So you see, Nike isn't going to pay him any more money if he can't preform and be in contention at the 5k, or especially the 10k, with the US Marathon looking weak right now, I think Solinsky's move is smart.

Is he the most decorated runner never to win a national title or make an olympic team? I'd be curious if anyone has a better candidate for that title.
This is misleading...he was won numerous HS and collegiate national titles...just not one as a pro

If he is not going to be a good marathon runner if he can barely crack 29 and 14
He is done. he is moving on to his career choice as a civil rights activist.
I heard his wife had a black baby.

You're so amazing!! HEY EVERYBODY... He CALLED it!!! So, How's that arm? Did you get a fracture patting yourself on the back??? Why is it SOOO important for people to let everyone know that they "called it"??? Are you not confident enough in you person to say what you want to say and then let it be?
This may be true, but I couldn't bring myself to criticize a great runner who is making a comeback.
If he isn't having 10k success why would he move up to the marathon?
Solinsky should use his brain and train hard and try making the 800 and 1500 at Rio.

Where the hell did this come from. He's doing nothing of the sort (yet).
