Bumbalough sits in the pack and gets outkicked by Lagat, Rupp and Hill. Critics say "Bumbalough was stupid to let the pace lag and get out kicked again."
Bumbalough goes to the front and then fades at altitude. Critics say "Bumbalough was stupid for pushing the pace and die."
The poor guy gets ripped on no matter how he runs the race. And then somebody hammers him with a DQ.
If in fact the DQ situation with the officials was a matter of principle, Bumbalough's should have been harder fought than Grunewald's. I assume Bumbalough is eating the DQ to protect Hill.
i highly doubt bumbi was pacing. i think he just misjudged the race and deserved no DQ. i remember watching his interview after new balance and he said he had done zero altitude training this past year to be closer to his family. that would fully explain him taking it out hard but dying. he ran 2 fast times in the past few weeks and didn't want it to be left to a kick with lagat and rupp there, hence the leading, but ignoring altitude training and then taking it out way hard at 5000 ft will mess you up
Why isn't any protest against his DQ?

Less bitches involved.
LOL
After watching the men's 3000 meter race again, I can see why AlSal was pissed. Bumbalough, Lamong and Hill were using Kenyan/Ethiopian tactics against Rupp and Lagat. Bumbalough took it out hard, set a nice pace for Hill. After he dropped, Lamong did his best to impede Rupp without actually fouling him, then dropped off when the kick began. No wonder Rupp was 3 meters off of Hill going into the last lap. Rupp's dealt with worse in Europe but probably didn't expect to get jumped in the US Indoor championships. AlSal saw exactly what was going on and stood up for Rupp. Good for him.
I don't understand your argument. Salazar cannot order the race to form. This isn't Friday night at BU.

What an incredibly stupid post.
Bumbalough set a nice pace for Hill? Really? And those others (Lagat, Rupp....) were not in the same race, using the same pace-setter?
Try thinking some time. It'd do you good.
Lomong impeded Rupp? Really? What race were you watching?
Seriously dude, get a clue.

I don't see where a foul occurred either. Do you?
He was DQ'd for being a boring a-hole...long live Saladbar and Rupp!!!
Well now we know what the USATF spin is going to be on this tomorrow: This is from Dexter McCloud, AAC Secretary, posted in a Facebook group for USATF Officialshttps://www.facebook.com/groups/98592597792/
Okay Becca Gillespy Peter - I called around and got the answer for myself:
The runner was DQed for "interference". The officials were already conferring about whether the athletes actions warranted a disqualification. AT THE SAME TIME, a protest was filed. So, apparently, at least two people saw something objectionable.
That being said, the athlete was disqualified and the athletes COACH was IMMEDIATELY informed. The coach was told that he had the right to appeal. He DECLINED his option to appeal.
Can people not race anymore?
How an you impeed whe in the front? It's the people behind who should have to swing wide. Jesus, the race is not in lanes, let them duke it out. Makes it more entertaining for one but who cares if you get bumped. Toughen up you pansies.
Point 1: Being at the track and seeing the video, for the life of me I can't see any reason Bumbalough was disqualified. As someone already pointed out, this has to be a case of mistaken identify with Hill. Hill jumped out in front of Rupp without looking and the TV commentator even made a point of it. Whether it was DQ worthy or not, I believe this was the incident in question. The Schumacher group knows this was a case of mistaken identity and thoughtfully didn't press the matter. After all, Hill would than be disqualified and forfeit his spot as the alternative to Sopot (as well as 3rd place prize money). At this juncture, the Schumacher group would be best to keep their mouths shut.
Point 2: The USATF doesn't have rules against Bumbalough pacing. You guys are thinking of the NCAA. The Schumacher group had the right to pace the race and use team tactics. Make no mistake here, this is exactly what they did. At this level, you don't send a guy like Bumbalough to the front of that field, at altitude no less, and have him run a 60 second first quarter and come through the mile in 4:10. Schumacher is no dummy and neither is Bumbalough. These aren't the minor leagues. They knew exactly what they were doing. As I said before, just own it. They made a race plan and it backfired.
So, here we are on page 4, 3 days later, and none of us actually know why Bumby was DQ?
Is that in itself not a huge problem?

100% agree here. people get impeded and stepped on and clipped in almost every college race and many pro and hs too. As long as it doesn't seem intentional or too hard of a contact there shouldn't be any complaints. Let the runners race! especially if it's not even the last lap.
If this wimpy stuff continues it will just make track more lame to the general public, pretty soon we'll be viewed as bigger ******* than tennis players.
Also we might even see runners diving to DQ others. can't you see one of Salazar's boys without title hopes purposely taking a bit of contact at USA's and exaggerating it to get a specific non-salazar runner DQ'd?
Maybe implement a system of yellow/red cards during races to discourage bumping, but just let the people race. never would the runner themselves or any real coach go and complain about an athlete being impeded on the 5th lap when there are more than 5/6 laps.
These US athletes need to sack up because you know at worlds the africans aren't going to keep a 3 ft radius from the americans.

I like this meme.
Please, we see enough diving in pro soccer! yellow cards would just encourage that. Why can't we agree among the officials who actually offciate this sport that all that the athletes want and expect is consistency within the meet and consistency within their level of competition between events. And if we want our top athletes to be competitive at the international level, a foul/no-foul call at the top level dictates what the call should be at the US qualifier for the international meet. So the Referee and the jury need to have some international experience or at least the NTOs give some guidance and mentoring to avoid what happened last weekend. Hill/Rupp contact is not a foul at international level, so all you folks saying the wrong guy got DQd are WRONG!
Andrew Bumbalough should have never been dq'd. I have heard conflicting reports about the notification to his coach. Was Coach Schumacher notified of the protest and did he decide not to object?
Even if Coach Schumacher didn't object there still appears to be no grounds for disqualification. How can someone be dq'd on a protest with no merit?
The silence on this matter and the phony enhanced video images is funnier and sadder by the moment.
To sum it up: Bumbi was DQd by the officials. It was not worth the $50 to protest the DQ, as 8th place is neither a WC slot, nor a prize $ slot, nor would it earn him a sponsorship bonus. It might be frustrating, but not worth the $ to protest.

Hill is the only one who should have possibly been DQ'd in the whole meet. Is possible that Bumbalough was mistaken for him?
Pretty egregious contact by Hill in the 3000 around the 5:10 mark in the race. Video shows a nice replay of it. Im sure that this is what Salazar was really pissed about.
