Pathetic.
Do you think if the same thing happened to an unattached runner there even would have been a second appeal, let alone a third?
Just pathetic of USATF, and dirty of Al Sleazy.

So I'm confused. I was thinking this was some blatant foul reading the comments on here and it would make sense for Gabe to be disqualified.... I just watched the video and barely even noticed contact. I'm kind of shocked now about how much attention this has been given on here...

The pathetic thing is that the appeals were necessary at all. This whole situation would have been avoided if they'd just made the obvious call in the first place.
Not only was the contact minor, it happened because Hasay cut in on Grunewald when Hasay failed to pass Rowbury.
Does anyone else remember the fall that a NIKE athlete caused in the 2012 Olympic 10k Trials, but no one was DQed, despite runners going down, but now that it's a NIKE athlete that benefits, someone gets DQed?
DQ? No way. Only Nike money can buy that decision.
Hasay was completely done.
And the one won the race, won fairly.
Bigger question:
How do we take back American track and field. This creepy dysfunctional Nike crap has got to be stopped.
Hasay was gassed. If she had ran the whole race without being touched and started 10m ahead of the rest of the field she still wouldn't have made the team.
F this decision. Totally ridiculous. Rowbury and Gabe both soundly proved they deserved to go.
That is a disgraceful DQ
Contact yes...impeding anyone's progress or gain an advantage no
Hope Nike is pleased. This could very likely be the only Worlds team that Hasay ever makes. Nike won't be able to get her in over Mary Cain, Elise Cranny, Efraimson and she'll still be getting beat by Simpson, Rowbury, and the like.
I am APOPLECTIC right now. Just send our sh!tty athletes to worlds, no biggie.
As someone posted in another thread, if Grunewald is to be DQ'd here then you need to go back and take away Gebrselassie's first WC Gold.
Maybe she should have been DQed, there was definitely contact.
The fact that the initial decision, the appeal, and the 2nd appeal held...and then were reversed is sketchy as fvck and reeks of some serious bullsht.
Regardless of whether she deserved the DQed the manner this happened is really sketch and if Nike truly muscled this to occur all I can see is disgusting.

I agree. It looks like Hasay's movement caused the contact.

Honestly, there should be a safe harbor rule. Even if there is excessive contact, the win / place should still go to the person who won / placed higher if there is overriding evidence that it wouldn't have affected place. Gabe would've won regardless of whether she pushed Hasay. Hasay would've gotten no better than 3rd even if she had run unimpeded. It's ridiculous to make the decision after what we saw on the last lap. I could understand it if the push happened later, or Hasay finished very close to Gabe and Shannon.
Is gabe able to appeal the DQ?

More importantly, will she be able to appeal the appeal of the appeal?
Correct decision for DQ.
Watch the whole race, she does not stay in her own space at all. She is in Hasay's throughout the whole race.
The way she raced, she had no respect for other athletes.
Even the commentator mentioned that she was like a "toy car that couldn't slow down. " She did not look like a composed runner and hardly a runner.
She won't be around for a long time with her demeanor in the sport.
It was a crap field anyway, but Gabe looked like a newbie to being on the track.
DQ was correct, hopefully she and others will learn from this! ....the sad part is she probably would of won without all the physical contact...btw all caused by her
I take back that demeanor in the sport comment.
I just didn't like how she didn't talk to or acknowledge the women she was competing with for the win (Hasay and Rowbury).
Just crap.

You've got to be kidding. At 10:07 into the video Grunewald runs into the back of Hasay, then over the following frames Grunewald leans her shoulder into Hasay as she passes. Track allows some contact but not this much.
I am a big Grunewald fan. It is amazing how she battled back from cancer. Without question she was the best runner in the 3000m today, but she cannot throw herself into runners in the last lap as she passes them, and Hasay was not the only runner she did this to.

No, she doesn't run for Nike.
