I still don't really get why Farah is moving up to the marathon at the moment, but say what you will about Alberto's methods, he isn't a dumb coach. He's one of the smartest coaches in the world and is extremely deliberate in how he works. Farah won't aim for WR pace unless he can keep it up for the whole race. And I wouldn't be surprised to see him burn a crazy time his first marathon.
For the record, I don't think he'll aim for anywhere near WR pace in London. I think he'll try to run around 2:05, which I think he is capable of.
Agree with most of what you say. Salazar is a smart coach and Farah clearly listens to every word he says. The tactics that won in 2012 and 2013 were Farah following the Alberto plan. If Salazar tells him to run even splits to a 2.05, I think he will achieve that. He could conceivably win doing it too. The one thing i disagree with is that I think he WILL go with the pace.
There are considerations outside pure athletics here. There must be a shed load of cash on the table in various ways - appearance fee from London to Farah, WR bonus, win bonus. The London officials want him to win as it would be great publicity for them to have the local Olympic hero come good in London again. They have made a big investment in Farah. As such, I don't think it makes much sense that they would bring in a huge name athlete to pace at WR pace if the event poster boy did not want it.
