That track sucks. It's too hard and the surface must be 100 years old. Plus the air in there is dusty.

They should have it in Geneva Ohio where they hold NAIA nationals. Brand new 300 meter track, endless facilities.

Via Rule 8 USATF also allows WC qualification standards which include an outdoor time standard (4:03.5 for women's 1500 vs Rowbury's 4:01.x).

* You can NOT qualify for the U.S. Indoor Champs with an outdoor time (except for the Rule 8 exceptions below).

* You CAN qualify for the World Championships (i.e. achieve the standard) with an outdoor time, but those time are different than the indoor times one must achieve.

* Here's the text from the USATF COMPETITION RULES FOR RULE 8 (it does NOT give you a seed time, however).

AUTOMATIC QUALIFICATION

Automatic qualification, as listed in this section, shall not abrogate any entry requirements

other than the qualifying requirements for a championship. Any athlete who attains any of the following shall be afforded automatic qualification into a USA Indoor, Outdoor, Race

Walking or Marathon Championship or USA Olympic Team Selection in the same event in

which the performance was attained:

1. Track and Field -

(a) During the current or four previous calendar years, earned an individual medal in

track and field in an Olympic Games or in an IAAF World Indoor or Outdoor

Championship.

(b) Is the reigning USA Indoor or Outdoor champion.

Folks:

I have posted many, many times before and will again. As someone who has actually sat in the USATF meetings, and been blown away by their total and absolute cluelessness none of this should come as a surprise. Seriously, I laugh when I think about people making these decisions and their utter lack of basic knowledge about the sport. Idea's that they come up with would make anyone with any semblance of knowledge about track & field go……huh!!!

The 1500 decision fits perfectly with how they run their show, incompetent and clueless. Unfortunately the athletes are always the ones who suffer.

And by the way, if any of you think that the major players in the sport (Nike, etc) don't weigh in and get things changed in their favor then you are dreaming.
