Potential disaster at 2014 USA Indoors? Straight 1500 final and there are 22 women, 18 men already in each race

Heath, not Health! Although I'm guessing Health wouldn't want to double 1500 prelims and 3k finals on the same day either.

I know that at least a couple of those guys want a prelim because they'd scratch the 1500m and just run the 3000m if Rupp had to run prelims on day 1.

As of Thursday 2/20/14 at 1:30 EST there are no multiple sections shown for the 1500 or 3000, although they are shown for shorter distances-

The bigger question is should we create a schedule to allow our "best" people to qualify in multiple events if they so desire? Or do we force them to choose one event or do a difficult double on one day?

If you put 1500 prelims on Friday, then there's no double on one day. 3 hard races in 3 days isn't much better, however.

As far as doubling, the schedule for USAs ought to match the schedule for Worlds as closely as possible so that if you can double at Worlds you can double at USAs. If no double is possible at Worlds, then there's no reason to make it possible at USAs.

Good idea... put 15 prelims on Friday. And I agree with your second point as well.

I'm absolutely for mimicking what they would do at Worlds. I can tell you they won't have to sections of a timed final at Worlds, and picking our team that way would not find those "best" qualified for the Worlds format.

I love sections. You want to go to Worlds RUN FAST. Sit and kick is now meaningless. You won't see the cluster fvck that we witnessed last year in the 5000 outdoors.

Except that this isn't how Worlds is run and so you could lose your runners best equipped for the Worlds format because they were in a heat that went slow and didn't want to do all the work and get outkicked. Would you argue that the 5000m last year did not result in our getting our best 3 runners in Lagat, Rupp, and Hill?

Regardless, someone will be getting paid by Nike to make Rupp's heat FAST.

Could this be a reaction to last years 5000m with a small handful actually competing and willing and available runners locked out?

Maybe it's not as obvious as I thought, but the reason the thread has persisted seems to be more involved and boils down to the following:

1) Will USATF enforce those field sizes?

2) If so how will they cull the field size?

3) Why hasn't USATF said one way or the other?

4) Why hasn't anyone in a position to do so asked them?

Nine minutes between events so looks like it's one race re: 8 PM EST update on the 17th.

1:53 p.m. W 1500 final

2:02 p.m. M 400m final - s

2:08 p.m. " 400m final - f

2:15 p.m. W 800m final

2:22 p.m. M 1500 final

2:31 p.m. W 60m final

2:38 p.m. M 60m final

So what you're saying is that the day before the meet is to start, the USATF lists 19 men as accepted and declared in the 1500m, while elsewhere its webpage for the meet says the field will be capped at 12. An no one on this website is able to explain what will actually happen in the meet? Two sections timed final? 19 men in a final? 19 men reduced to 12 through scratches, bvllsh1t luck, and someone at USATF saying, "Not you, sonny" as the men are about to step on the track?

Can you not read Rojo? Exactly where on that page are the words "cap" or "max" or "cutoff"?

So if there is a 12 runner cap in the 1500, then Rupp and Rowbury are both out of the 1500, despite qualifying and declaring, correct? Neither one is listed in the top 12-

I don't believe those field sizes listed are caps. At least I can't find anything that indicates such.
