Well if that's the case and she had a monopoly on the rabbit's splits, then she should have had AlSal tell the rabbit to dial back the pace. It's bush league to be the one to tell the rabbit to run 4:20 pace and then just use the rabbit as a decoy.

Huh, Really Nudist? Have you ever raced indoors or outdoors for that matter? No kidding she didn't think she was in 4:20 shape, as matter of fact she ran 4:32 and got schooled by a teenager. Bottom line, she had no business bitching about the rabbit because she was never going to be a factor in the race, whether it was tactical or balls to the wall.

Plus it sounds like she was expecting this because that's what others told the rabbit to do. I think Emma's pojnt is race however you want to, but don't do a big fake out and waste the rabbit. I would be frustrated too.

I saw Kim Conley use the rabbit in two meets. I assume she or her coach asked for that pace and Kim honored the request. That's all Emma is saying, if you ask for a 4:20 then whoever asked for that should go with it. Simple

Also, any use of the word "coward" on this thread is ridiculous. She went for it and tried to push it. She took a risk and showed courage in doing so.

Every runner out there is tough son of a B! Fans and high school runners need not share their input on the "cowardness" of these women's efforts.

It takes a lot of courage to stand up to the Nike Empire and AlSal and say a couple of sentences of logic. I'm sick of everyone drinking their Kool Aid. I like that she's speaking up and doing so fairly and politely. Very gracious but honest.

I would say Coburn WAS a factor in the race, and imagine someone who solo'd a 4:29 ftw at NCAAs last year would be capable of running a good bit faster had the field all been running more aggressive. Cain didn't beat Coburn by that much in this same race last year, so even though it's not her specialty I wouldn't count her totally out. This was not a championship race, most of the runners I think were going there to get a good time in a cool event. Cain boned everyone if she asked for that pace and then sat back and ran a 71 instead of a 65.

I think races should be required to publish ahead of time what the rabbit pace is going to be and a rationale for it. It makes no sense that it's no official. Either get rid of rabbits or make it publicly known what they are going to do.

SEriouisly, it's such a big part of the sport and yet know one knows what the deal is unless you are in insider a few hours before the race.

I totally get why Coburn was disappointed. SHe wanted to PR and it's foolish to have a rabbit go out at American record pace if no one is going to go for it. I also get why people say, "Coburn could have gone out hard." BUt most people dont' want to lead and 2:10 is way too faste for her.

I too wondered, "Are they not going for it so that Efraimson doesn't beat Cain's time from last year?"

Likely they just wanted to work on tactics but if that's the case, then just tell people, "We don't want a rabbit."

4:27 was the winning time. It's not like the race was won in 4:35. Has Emma run faster than 4:27?

It's not Mary Cain's job to be the second rabbit for Emma.

Since that is her fanpage, or even if it was her personal page, that is a mistake. She is representing New Balance, and I am surprised that they don't give athletes guidelines on NOT DOING this type of thing.

I suggested something to that effect on a different thread and was summarily dismissed. It seemed like the first time all season that Moser didn't push the pace. No doubt Cain and Moser would have followed the field if it went with the rabbit, but the field didn't do it. Cain has tremendous faith in her kick and they knew one advantage of the slow pace would be no chance for Efraimson to match Cain's age 16 time. And there will be other opportunities for Cain to get the world junior record she missed by 0.01.

First of all, I see nothing wrong with her NB picture. A beautiful athlete is what I see. I enjoy seeing fit athletes, that's half the enjoyment of watching athletic events. Gods beautiful creation, what's so wrong with that?

Secondly, I love her moxie calling out the horse shit move by AlSal requiring a rabbit as a decoy. I like this kid!
