1 or 2?
Shattered her 3rd in 3 races. On another level and could have went faster in this race, but her rabbit was running too slow. She probably cost her another 6 seconds.
She's just 2 seconds off the outdoor record.
Rojo, Dibaba broke Yelena Soboleva's indoor 1500 WR. Arigawi didn't run 3:57.9 until 5 days after Dibaba already broke it. Please fix the 2 mile WR recap.

I think you're missing the point. Sub 2:20 marathon is worth far more than a 4:15mile. There are a number of woman capable of sub 2:20 and thus there should be several capable of sub 4:15 or 9flat as well. Women's middle distance times are by far the weakest compared to all other women's running events.
G Dibaba's times are not that shocking to me

Dibaba didn't break Aregawi's record. Get your act together Rojo.
9min 2mi is pretty WEAK SAUCE compared to her 8:16 3000m. Looks like she is on the DECLINE. She had a good run, it's coming to an end.

Ramzi looks like a saint by comparison.
The ignorance on these boards is amazing at times. All World Records aren't necessarily doped. I dont know if she is or isn't but this doesn't remind me of Ramzi at all.
1) I've long thought women should run way faster than they do in the middle distances. Think about it. There are slew of women who can run sub 2:20 in the marathon but basically none that can run 4:15 in the mile?
2) Also she's got good genetics.
3) She's a former youth star.
This is pretty much the opposite of Ramzi.
You pretty much described Regina Jacobs, Mary Slaney and Marion Jones.

Ignorance would be: to not "suspect doping", in this era; eloquence notwithstanding.
8:16.9 x 1.08 ~ 8:56.7

And she ran 4s slower. Yep, a new WR, but lets face it, the old one was weak, too.
This girl is flying! They should organize a special 5000m indoor race in two weeks' time, in which she can go for Defar's 14:24 Word Record. I think she is up to the task.

Thank you.
The gender differences in performance are maximal
in the middle distance. You are assuming some proportional differences should apply 100m through marathon.
But the fatigue resistance (ability to maintain speed) differences are not so applicable in the 100m, and peak
muscle power difference (ability to produce speed) are not quite as important in the marathon. As a result you get roughly 11% differences in WR times at 100m and marathon.
Somewhere in between, however, these power and fatigue resistance functions maximize the gender differences in performance velocity.
9.6 x 1.12 = 10.8 (100m)
43.2 x 1.12 = 48.3 (400m)
1:41 x 1.12 = 1:53.1 (800m)
3:26 x 1.12 = 3:50.7 (1500m)
4:45 x 1.12 = 5:18 (2000m)
7:20.67 x 1.12 = 8:14 (3000m)
12:37 x 1.12 = 14:12 (5000m)
26:18 x 1.12 = 29:28 (10000m)
2:03:24 x 1.2 = 2:18 (marathon)
Ask yourself, which of these performances are least likely to occur in a women's race? The record due to come down is the women's 10000m.
Notice that 5:18 2000m would mean a woman goes through 1500m in 3:59 and closes w/ 1:19 for the last 500m.
Even if drugs got Koch a .6 sec boost, the 48.3 has been done (this assuming no drug boost on the men's side),
but somewhere between 800m and 2000m is the likely physiological ebb of women's running performances. It isn't there because women aren't trying hard enough.
Of course, other factors apply (allometrics, fueling and cooling difference especially) but all of these favor relatively better performances for women in the distances above 1h.
Rojo,
Who is her coach and what other runners does he coach?
Your judgement is clouded. Hoping to land a big interview with her one day?
Her coach is Jama Aden
Mohamed moustawi WL 1500m 3.35s 3000m 7.40s
Ayanleh Suliman 2nd WL 3.35 3000m 7.40s
Ballah 600m 1.15s
And dibaba 3 world record so far... Expecting medals for this group in world indoor.
jaspers you beat me to it ,
1.
are you describing most elite athletes there !!!
good genetics ,fast when they were young ,etc
usual excuses .
2.
I ALWAYS THOUGHT THE WOMENS DISTANCE RECORDS WERE WEAK !!!
obviously ,they are women .
no way ,that lack of strength and form ,recovery ,lower hematocrit and various other things are weaker in women ,could be such a big factor in previous times .
3.
she is ethiopian from altitude ,
yes it is beneficial but not this much ,
why wait till now for such an ethiopian women to do such.
yes her sisters but not quite the same .
4.
NEVER THINK THAT 800M ETHIOPIAN AMAN could be on the
same sauce ,or rudisha before him with that extra height .
steroids never did much for womens middle longer distances
in terms real fast times .abit more speed ,recovery etc.
could THE LIGHTNESS be the perfect fit for womens middle distance ,okay for sprints but never give them the strength
that steroids would give and what results comparing to.
for men different story as can see ,
COULD THIS BE MAKING HER RUN MORE LIKE A MAN ,with that extra speed ,etc .why such room for improvement in times
as mentioned above .
assuming endurance is relatively constant .
still dont think new endurance methods involved
and if translate to men , as will be compared to previous
times induced by high hct and epo (or if from country not tested still the soup de jeur). wait and see

I expect Genzebe to be flying all year. This doesn't look like a peak, it looks like a level jump. She's running with ease. The 1500 and 3K outdoor mile and possibly the 5K could all be hers by September.
By then she be known as the girl that took over the universe.
RIP: D3 All-American Frank Csorba - who ran 13:56 in March - dead
RENATO can you talk about the preparation of Emile Cairess 2:06
Rest in Peace Adrian Lehmann - 2:11 Swiss marathoner. Dies of heart attack.
Running for Bowerman Track Club used to be cool now its embarrassing
I think Letesenbet Gidey might be trying to break 14 this Saturday
Hats off to my dad. He just ran a 1:42 Half Marathon and turns 75 in 2 months!
