Not to be a total conspiracy theorist but did they have drug testing at the two meets at BU where Galen set his records?
Would droping out of the mile allow him to avoid drug testing?

For an AR to be ratified, and athlete has to be drug tested within 24 hours after the record was set

Rupp changed to his training shoes and warmed down without pain. Then he put on his old spikes and did a demanding postrace workout.
"It was a fantastic workout," Salazar said. "He's fine."
Mr. Salazar, we know you read these boards. Please stop looking for that extra edge. It shouldn't be about who has the best shoes, the best track or the best maybe legal medication. It should be about who is the best.
Letsrun or fans, did anyone see Rupp doing the workout post-race?
Personally, I don't share the qualms posters in this read are sharing. I love how Salazar pushes the limits and uses technology and science vigorously.
Rather, my concern is from my first impression about the supposed sincerity and seriousness of these (from the link) statements...
It's not that I don't think it's possible.
I am not an elite athlete on Rupp's level by any means, but usually, in my experience, injuries and running issues are not 100% about the shoes (even when the shoes are a conspicuous factor) but also involve bodily fitness and biomechanics, which leads me to think about two possibilities:
1. Rupp has some--at least some--biomechanical issues, which makes it astounding that his coach had him put on the "old" shoes and hammer a post-[DNF]race workout--I hope, privately, Salazar perhaps, in the event of this possibility, reanalyze Rupp's biomechanics and strength training and tweak things, or else an injury is ahead down the road.
2. The shoe was a huge failure, being so structurally distinct and, perhaps, flawed, as to screw up Rupp's fast running. Of course, one might say, at this speed and level of performance, a small tweak and flaw in the shoe can result in such things--but I would imagine that Rupp is in such astounding shape and biomechanical soundness and balance, as to make him versatile for most shoe-types.
Anyways, just my amateurish two cents.

For the record, Pre hurt his foot chasing a girl in a hotel room. It's true, I saw it in a movie!
No one is going to run a race in shoes they haven't tried. I'm calling BS on this one. He probably just choked.

So, Rupp dropped out of yet another of his rare international races because his SPIKES WERE HURTING HIS FEET A BIT?
Show some heart, man. Ritz turned his feet to hamburger running XC with spikes that were off, but never DNFd like Rupp.

Correct.
And most African runners on the circuit get a couple days at most to get used to the season's main shoe from Nike or Adidas, and that's what they're in for the season. They sure don't get anything custom designed (or get to DNF constantly under contract).
Flotrack has a video of Cain and Hasay doing a workout at the Harvard track after their race at BU...
Yet, in threads like this, posters like this, and even an official Letsrun poster, say "They didn't do any workout at Reggie" almost implying that they couldn't have gone to one of the 2 other top notch indoor facilities in the city (a few minutes drive) to workout afterwards... It's not like there's a video of them doing exactly that no more than a few weeks ago or anything... But since it wasn't done at Reggie, it's obviously highly suspect...
They went somewhere else, probably either BU or Harvard, both whom would've have been happy to open their doors to them, to do their workout. Simple as that.
This answers some questions in the thread:http://www.runnersworld.com/elite-runners/galen-rupp-drops-out-of-mile-then-does-workout
Pure BS from the NOP team.
Nowhere does it say this is the first time he wore the shoes.

So the first time he used those shoes was in a race? Stupid. He should have tried them out during a workout.
Nothing to say that the shoe was a failure, this time of the season it's all about "better safe than sorry" and "testing and tweaking", to both running form and material - just ask the pole volters...

How much of an idiot are you? Quit watching sports in general if that is your attitude. The whole idea is to look for that extra edge. Man, some people on here are st*pid.

Well, you're wrong. Rupp is not the only Nike-sponsored athlete to get custom designed shoes.
How about posting a list of all the races Rupp has run over the past 10 years so we can see how many times he's actually DNF'd?

No, your comment is an ignorant and st*pid.
Use your brain a little bit. I think Eugene is saying why wear the shoes in a race if they hurt your feet. Either Rupp never used the shoes before (which isn't smart) or they strangely caused his feet to hurt only after half the race...

i'm currently wear testing a pair of shoes for nike that didn't start hurting my feet until i put in about 100 miles in them.
i've tested shoes in the past that hurt instantly and felt better after about 100 miles.
i've tested shoes that just plain hurt regardless of how much i ran them.
strange things can happen with prototypes.
