Rupp, Cain, and Moser jogging around afterwards. His foot seems fine now... http://instagram.com/p/kLC1aNw3xG/

I'm glad I missed that. It was a weak record and it still is.
What a jerk. I suppose you and 3 of your couch buddies will reset it next week.
It's just a dumb event that not many runners care to do.
Besides every HS is the United States?
Being popular with teenage boys makes the event about as serious as Porkys. Not a strong argument.
It's an event in the new IAAF World Relay Meet. We will be hearing more about 4x800 from now on.
Great race for Mary. This time she put herself at the front and did not fall off the pace too much. Fantastic last lap finish.

He can do that in Portland, very strange.
I'm going to go out on a limb here and guess that dropping out wasn't part of the plan he and Al Sam came up with back on Oregon. I know that's "out there," but at least entertain the idea.

I don't care how flippin often the distance is contested, THAT race was awesome. Both those guys were about ready to lose it on the final stretch. Just fun to watch. Hope that relay meet someone mentioned is able to produce a couple equally exciting events.
Simpson's miscount was hard to watch, she was a good sport about it though. I thought the announcer was someone to blame - can't remember exactly but I thought he announced "two to go" or something with three to go, and Simpson seemed to latch on to that. Then about halfway through the penultimate lap he corrected it but she didn't hear because she was making her big move. Anyone else hear that?

Forget that it was a (weak) record and watch it for the race. It was a great last leg (the only one I watched).
The weakest part of the record is that both of the top 2 teams will be credited with an American Record.
USATF Rule 263.11 - For Open Men's and Women's relay events, records shall be recognized in two categories. The first shall be for Olympic, Pan American, and National teams officially representing the USA in international competition, and teams composed of U.S. citizens competing in sanctioned domestic or international events. Records shall also be recognized for the same distances established by relay teams representing a single athletic club or school team. However, where the single club or team record is a superior mark, that record alone shall be recognized.
So NJNY get AR- Club version and Sowinski et al get an AR All-comers version.
Do not think the dual titles makes it weak. This is a good rule. There is a difference beween a cub that competes under the USATF club system and A UASTF All-star team or one assembled from various clubs for a specific race or series.
The event will be seeing change in All-time World Lists as more national teams contest it for The IAAF World Relay Champs. Time to set benchmarks.
