Where is our anti-genetics crusader?
Professional Reporter:
Finally, a humorous post. Defar must have taken one epic growth hormone to have broken the world record when she was barely able to walk. She turns 31 this year! Like I said in my previous posts, don’t poison her hard work and success with unfounded suspicions. None of the top Ethiopian women runners in the last ten years have ever tested positive. And it is not for lack of incentive to deflate their superiority in the field. Folks virtually the entire country of Ethiopia and Kenya is full of wanabi Dibabas and Lagats. No football, basketball, baseball, hockey etc there. All the youth into athletics and soccer, running is the dream to get the gold and raise the flag in the Olympics and now of course make money. A positive test for Genzebe is so much more different than for an American athlete. It will be a terrible blow to her family, the Country and all the kids who have worshipped the Ethiopian runners from Abebe Bikila to Haile Gebreselassie. It would be devastating for everyone. And if the new coach was responsible for it, what destruction he would have wrought to a program what was just doing fine as it is.
