A more recent one that comes to mind is Jelian running down Farah at the WC 10000 a couple years ago. Dude just kept finding another gear.

I agree! We're not talking about a local high school or college meet. It was the freakin Olympics final.

again you are clueless & no grasp of maths
he ran last 2 curves on lane 2 line or worse - see 1'35 into race & see where his feet are
an outdoor track radius is 36.9, for indoors it is 18.45m
running whole of indoor curve ~ 1.0m wide adds distance of :
(18.45 + 1.0)*pi - (18.45*pi) = 3.14m
he did this for last curves = 2 * 3.14 = 6.28
Actually you're wrong. The standard radius of an IAAF approved indoor 200m track to the mark 30cm from curve (where distance around track in lane 1 is measured) is 17.496m not 18.45m
So 2 x pi x 17.496 = 109.93m, the combined distance run on the 2 curves.
The width of each lane on the oval track (as opposed to the lanes on the 60m in the infield) is 0.90m. Thus if Ereng was to run the entire lap on the line separating lanes 1 & 2 (and he was inside of this line for the majority of the last lap), then he would be 60cm wide of the point in lane 1 where the distance is measured from.
So that would work out as 2 x pi x 18.096 (17.496 + 0.60) = 113.701.
That's 3.77m extra, nowhere near 6.28m
As he was inside this line (albeit close to it) for most of the last 2 bends, then an extra distance of c 3.5m is a generous discrepancy to give Ereng.
So his last 200m of 25.7 is worth at best 25.25/25.3.
I'm afraid Red Arrow was much closer in his analysis than you old chap.
Here's a link to the IAAF pdf for indoor dimensions.
2nd choice on list, "Marking Plan 200m Indoor Track - IAAF"
even before i opened the video, I knew it was sage

as if you called that from top of your head !

get a clue
the radius is irrelevant, it's the increase that is
LOL.
If the radius is irrelevant then why mention it in your posts?
The radius and width of lane is completely relevant. Ereng was no more than 60cm further out from the line of radius in lane 1. Not 1m as you claimed.
You also gave the wrong radius of a 200 indoor track. Not too good for a self proclaimed mathematical genius.
He ran nowhere near 6m extra.
clueless
learn to read
only distance out from lane-1 shortest route counts, not whether radius is 36m or 18m or 1 million meters
as for radius of indoor track, you didn't have a clue until just looking it up
he ran ~ 4m extra with no effective drafting

So now its 4m not 6.28m?
Thanks for clarifying that. ;)
that's from checking iaaf stats, same as you just did for 1st time

As has been said many, many times: Wottle did not kick , everyone else died. He was the best in the field, and was very lucky in that race that he did not screw it up - he could so easily have got blocked.
Paul Ereng, 1989, crazy last 200 to break Seb Coe's indoor world 800m record. This has to be one of the best (certainly the most dramatic and entertaining) final kicks ever...!!!

Not that impressive really. He just ran more even splits than the rest of the field. 25.7 and 13.1 is good but not the most impressive by a long way.

Wottle too.
At least get the quote right. SMH.

Why is this guy racing with a hat on?

err...
what part of indoors you not comprehend ???
knock off ~ 1.5 - 2% off all splits & final time to get an equivalent outdoor time & then re-think your statement...

Ereng must be from the same place Rudisha is from. They set WRs and then just smile and blow kisses. Not even breathing.
