This thread is funny, seeing a bunch of MEN arguing how pretty Kara is, whether she's over the hill, and whether people know who she is. Guess what-- women don't care how fast she is! It doesn't matter whether she runs 2:25, 2:35, or even 2:50. They absolutely know who she is, and she could hook up with any company and continue to be in magazine ads/covers and make a headline appearance at race expos. She's the Julia Roberts of distance running. And yes, I'm a woman.
Wow, glad to hear that your word is gospel.
I coach girls's high school cross country, I'm a woman, and not one of my runners has ever mentioned her name, not once. They don't say that they are getting these shoes or those shoes because Kara wore them. The only name I've heard mentioned is Paula because of how fast she ran the marathon.
We were ranked 3rd in the state. They don't care about her, don't buy things that she wears, and she's simply not that well-known.
Bottom line: In this world of social media, they care more about the girls who they are trying to beat in cc and track and how fast they ran at this meet or that meet, not Kara Goucher. They listen to music, they don't follow her on twitter.
I also run at a local park when training for my own races. Not once has anyone in our group talked about her, not once. Knowing who she is, WHO CARES? I know how lots of people are, so what?
If you really are a woman, you live a very insecure life.
