Cain and Efraimson will Race Soon, What if Cain Loses???

Efraimson beats Cain, Efraimson joins the NOP. Camas, Washington is right across the river from Portland. Surprised it hasn't happened already.

I must admit why wouldn't Efraimson be offered a pro contract. She clearly is at least as talented as Cain.

1. Better form (Cain will never have form as good as Efraimson and there is a chance Al Sal will screw up Mary trying to achieve the form)

2. No Al Sal coaching (although her coach is most likely excellent)

3. No Al Sal resources (sports psychologist, nutritionist, physical therapists, thyroid doctor, etc.)

4. No Al Sal gimmicks (underwater treadmills, cyro chambers, cold leg wraps, pollen masks, all of the unknown gimmicks)

From my perspective if Mary Cain warrants a contract so does Alexa Efraimson. Something tells me it will never come to fruition.

Efraimson is awesome but let's get some perspective....until she runs something on par with a 4:04 she's not on the same plane.

I'm hoping that Alexa runs right around the same time that Mary ran last year. 4:28ish would be awesome!!!! Go Alexa!!!!!

Yes...and let's not forget Cain's 1:59.51 800M. Efraimson's 2013 800M time was 2:06.54. Cain's 800M speed combined with her Middle Distance ability is what sets her apart.

Are you nuts? Why would AE even consider a 5k at this point. She was third at world youth last year in the 1500 (4.16) out of her soph year. If anything spend more time running some 800's to get her speed down. Nothing that I have seen indicates that she can't run faster for 800m, which will help her 1500, just as the XC and 3000 (endurance) does as well. She is a HS junior, not everyone progresses at the rate that Cain has, so I can see AE run low-2's (under 2.02) by the end of next year. Some people think that what you have run is all that you can run - BS. She is consolidating her endurance (9.00 is very good for HS junior, people have been spoiled now with Cain) at this point of the season - not trying to make world indoors as Mary C. seems to be doing - and will surprise people who think she is slow come the spring. Her focus should be on being on the team for 1500m at World Juniors in July (along with Mary).

How cool would it be to have AE and Cain on the team running the 1500 in Eugene? Alexa's prime distance is the 1500.......I'd be surprised if we see her run the 3k very many more times....

But they weren't Pro's. Cain is pro, not just running against them. But still I would certainly consider whatever Cain does this year as HS records.

I agree. To me, it's not like the NCAA. If you're a pro, you aren't in the NCAA. You can still be a pro and be in high school though.

And btw, Ryun's record was not run against pros. It was run against some older amateurs.

There were pro's in Ryun's era? It would be more accurate to say he ran his record in an open event.

Cain warrants a contract because she has won a U.S title and made finals at worlds. She also won or was in contention for the win when she set her records. Alexa, while fast, was 4th. Cain is in a no win situation with posters on this board. If she wins it's because AlSal, Nike contract and so on, if she loses....

I never said Cain's advantages were a bad thing. It is a great thing. In fact her advantages are all opportunities her and her family have created for themselves. I find it inspiring. They are truly doing their best to get the most out of her amazing talents. I just wish Efraimson and her handlers were as clever because I think she might have as much or more talent. Maybe she will get there get there without the keen oversight of the most famous distance running coach in the world today. I think many would find that inspiring as well. I hope the best for both athletes, but I will always find myself rooting for the underdog.
