Coghlan ran his indoor 3:49 in 1983, so that is just over 30 years ago. He had a long and illustrious career and plenty of opportunities in non Coe or Ovett races to run as fast outdoors. He didn't.
Same for Rupp. The fact is he hasn't yet run faster over a mile outdoors compared to indoors. Possible reasons for not doing so are irrelevant and cannot be measured in any case.
Wait until you hear what he says about Geb's faster indoor 1500. Should be good.
