About 20 years ago I took a coaching job at a small private high school. We patrolled the hallways for anyone with potential (or even looked like they had potential).
We talked a junior basketball player to come out. After two weeks of BS drills and other silly stuff for the new kids, we had a scrimmage. He ran 4:40 off of nothing.
He ran XC the next fall and made states. Played hoops again senior year in the winter. Spring of his senior year he ran 4:18 and 1:53.
Went to run at a Big East school that destroyed him and he dropped out after several years of continual injuries. Works for his Dads electrical contracting company.
After well over 20 years of coaching, I can still say that he may have been on of the most gifted athletes I have had the privelage of coaching.
