This sounds great in isolation but affairs are peoples business because marriage by it's nature and definition is a public declaration of love and commitment as well as a legal one.
There is also the matter of unstable families. Every study ever shows married couples and stable ones are the best environment for children to be brought up. The outcomes of childhood upbring is that we get more productive members of society which benefits everybody or parasitic members which disadvantages society. We aren't islands and this capitalist extreme atomisation of society under the pretence of privacy disadvantages us all and is therefore everybodies business.
For some couples, open marriages might be more stable than monogamy. The divorce rate is pretty high for monogamists. Perhaps if there was less dogma about acceptable marital behaviour more couples would stay together.
Do you have any stats on the outcomes of children brought up by parents in a stable, open marriage versus monogamist ones?
