He had great primal screams at both the 2004 and 2007 USA championships.
Does anyone have video of the "primal scream"...used to be on YouTube but I can't seem to find it...
He should've never run on that beach!
I drove with two buddies non-stop from Minneapolis to Eugene to make it to Pre. "Meb and Webb!" we would yell to stay awake. What a fantastic memory capped by the 3:53. I shook hands with El G that day, and its a blur compared to Webb. I really remember him going around Berryhill and realizing that something so special was occurring.
I waited in line with Bob Kennedy and got Webb's autograph on my PR hip number, still have it.
His ups and downs make him seem so much a regular guy, just like you or me, but he has a 3:46 to his name. Very likeable and very much appreciated.
I missed my sister's college graduation to see the 3:53. Thanks Alan, for making that one of my best decisions.
I hope Tri's make you happy, best of luck with fatherhood, and thanks for the spectacular memories. I consider you, and your running career, to be inspirational and worthy of a permanent spot in my memory.
Bump. Best of luck Alan!!
Time for more AW appreciation. Saw the other thread got sidetracked by some bums
Webb's the inspiration behind my generation of runners. Amazing athlete and competitor, all around excellent person, and one hell of a fighter. Kudos to an outstanding career.
Also holy moly the workouts described in that piece. The 20x400 ending in 50 had me weak. I don't see how anyone could get through something like that.
