That's not being crude. That's just being nonsensical again. Why would a 3:28 guy only be able to hit peak performance for 5 or 10 minutes? What does that even mean? That he could run 3:28 pace for only 5-10 minutes? Or that he could run marathon wr pace for only 5-10 minutes? Or that he could only run for a a maximum of 5-10 minutes?
well let's start with basics.
1) are usain bolt's muscles different in nature than Wilson Kipsangs? Do you think Bolt could run a 2:04 marathon if he trained for it? Could Kipsang run a 9.59 if he trained for it?
If you agree that world class runners have muscles that are freakishly good for their event, then we can talk. If you think all muscles are the same and the competitor chooses what event to train for...well we don't have much to talk about.
My thesis is that a 3:28 guy has muscles spectacularly good at running for 5-10 minutes at an absurdly high rate of speed. Mo can clearly stretch it out to 26 minutes.
But milers are milers for a reason and that very awesomeness they have for 5-10 minutes...will actually hurt them over the marathon.
