No cayote encounters but I do encounter a fax every now and then.

Now that somebody has pointed out that I misspelled coyote on a messageboard post, any responses to the question would be appreciated.
I think you've been getting into the Poyote a bit too much.
many encOunters. they aren't aggressive. usually they will just run away. if not make a loud noise and they probably will. the only exception is if they have pups. I'd guess they are defensive but I'm not very familiar with that.
Coyotes are pretty much harmless to runners.
Coydogs (coyotes bred with a dog) I've found are more of a danger.
Cayotes - I have no idea about.
Not on a run, but while walking once on an army base had a coyote trot alongside me (20 or so yards away) for a few minutes before finally peeling off into another direction. He didn't seem to mind me. Although I'm sure it's happened, I've never heard of anyone being attacked by a coyote. Obviously, you probably wouldn't want to be bit by one.
I've encountered with coyotes plenty times on my run. Most of the time they are scared and will run off. If I see one, I will stop and see what they will do and continue with my run. I definitely wouldn't run towards them.
I did hear a while back that a coyote entered the State XC championships and almost won the race...;)
I spooked a coyote while running ~2 weeks ago. It definitely wanted nothing to do with me.

The only adult to ever be fatally attacked by a coyote.
Coyotes are scared to death of humans.
I have come across two of them on two occasions. Each time I had my dog with me. We stopped and the coyotes and my dog seemed to kind of check each other out. Never felt threatening though. Eventually they trotted off.

Really? I've seen that video before.
I see no threat there. Farmer dogs are much more of a concern than that. Should all runners stop running on rural roads?
Ohh a coyote lingered & nibbled on a shoe when it was held in front of her/him! Danger! That guy was playing & could have EASILY scared that coyote off in half a second if he wanted.
A coyote chased me once. It nearly caught me but then it fell over a cliff.
Later it rerouted the road to trick me into running into a stone wall, but I cleverly ran up the wall and disappeared.

MEEEP MEEEP!
Where I live, encounters with chupacabras aren't unheard of. I haven't seen one, but if I did, I would probably crap my pants.

I am terrified of Great White Sharks and Grizzly Bears but I always seek them out and nibble on their fins and paws until they chase me away.

Yeah that was not a serious coyote "attack," I've had angry dogs be far more aggressive than that. Guy could have easily killed that coyote with his boot the way it was going for him. Looked more like a wild animal "playing."
I'm pretty sure you only have to worry about coyotes in large packs getting the jump on you. Even against a good number of them a full-grown man in winter gear with boots on should probably be able to kill quite a few before getting taken down. I'd be much more worried about coyote-wolf hybrids or hungry wolves if you have them where you live.
All of the Coyotes in the East and most other places are actually stable Wolf/Coyote hybrids. This is a well known fact about the "Eastern Coyote".
The girl who was killed was at the extreme Eastern range where the percentage of Wolf is at its highest.
If you are in the West and are familiar with the original type of Coyote, don't even discuss them in the same sentence as the newer type.
My point is that Coyotes aren't close to being terrified of humans. They wouldn't be so widespread if they were.
People as a rule don't react very well to Canines of any type attacking them.
It's easy to say you would kill a whole pack if they attacked, less likely in practice.
