I'm going through a rough time right now. I can never get in consistent boughts of healthy training. Running goes really well and then I get sick (all too often) or injured. I'm at the point where I'm asking myself if it's worth putting in all this time and effort while missing out on social events (ie. parties, going out late with friends, seeing girls, etc) for the not so great results I've had. I'm curious as to what was the breaking point for most letsruners? When did you give up on your dreams of being a great runner?
.
By "great", I take that to mean world class? If so it was in high school. I noticed that milers like John Walker could run 4 sub 58 sec quarters without stopping. After 3 years of running just 2 sub 63s caused severe suffering for me. And then I noticed that were people who could run 26 miles at sub 5 min pace!! Huh! I could bearly break 5 for one.
But I still enjoy trying to run fast and appreciate that over the years I was kinda good compared to the thousands of folks who ran in road races.
There's satisfaction to be found in running, stay with it.
