Hockey players are paid better down south. Nicer weather too.

Although this is true, it is much less so now as there is a league-wide salary cap. Teams can only spend so much. Canadian income taxes are a little higher, but players demand to be paid in US$.
In places like Detroit and Phoenix, NHLers can live like kings...where in Vancouver and Toronto, the economy and housing markets are so strong, it is more expensive.
You embarrass yourself and your ancestors in every single thread that you post in.

Do they still play hockey in Canada?
Tavares is from Ontario. He'll play for the Canadian Olympic team in Sochi.
Played our annual family outdoor Christmas hockey game. Nothing better. - 11C not much wind. Beautiful day to be out there for 2 + hours.
Good ice or even reliably frozen ponds etc are actually becoming rarer these days.
25-30 years ago it seems that winter was just a little bit more like winter is supposed to be.
We were having a great conversation till you walked in the room.
lettuce be real.. outdoor hockey rinks suck. If u miss the net you're screwed.. also no boards, freezing temperatures and sh*tty ice
We had hockey rinks in most school yards when I was growing up. The rink had boards and a small shack with a caretaker to shovel snow and water often. The shack had a wood stove. The lights went out at 9 PM and then there was just skating. If the school yard had room there was also a skating rink with no lights.

Are there still areas whe they play ice hockey on lakes and ponds ?
If so, where ? Thanks!!
Bien sûr.
http://www.montrealpondhockey.comI knew that. I screwed that up. I meant Patrick Kane is from Buffalo and is second in league scoring.
Egg on face.
This is so out there it had to be sarcastic right?
But in case you weren't don't forget the Sharks. That make three California teams top in the NHL. That has to sting those cold Canadian bums a?
They actually have outdoor hockey rinks in small towns in Minnesota. They are pavement that is a basketball court in the summer and when it snows over kids play hockey in the winter. Don't know if kids still do it though.
I live two blocks from an outdoor rink in northern MN. They still exist and, on nice days, can be full of kids.

Check the nationality of the players.
Oh, you mean Canadians like:
Teemu Selanne
Saku Koivu
Hendrick Andersen
Slava Voynov
Anze Kopitar??
Jonathan Quick
Dustin Brown (both of whom are American)??
It's not necessarily a Canadian game any more, just like the NBA not necessarily being American.
NO you are missing the point that posters have made since the OP did. Most of the top players in the league and about 60% of the players in the league including on the teams that play in the US are Canadian.
I had to laugh when an American posted a video totally mocking Canada because the Boston Bruins won the Stanley Cup against Vancouver, a Canadian based team.
Boston had more Canadians playing for them than the Vancouver Canucks did. In fact Milan Lucic is from Vancouver.
Only one team has won a Stanley Cup with a non-Canadian as captain.
No it doesn't burn Canadian bums. When the league was a 6 team league for several decades the teams were:
Chicago
NYR
Boston
Montreal
Toronto
Detroit
With 10 x the population in the states, the only way to float a high-end professional league is to have teams in big American cities, giving us a place to play ;o)
43 of 73 players on the active rosters on the three California teams are Canadian.
Check out the U.S. pond hockey championships located in Minneapolis, MN.
This is two miles from my doorstep. The lake and area surrounding the lake are on route for the Twin Cities Marathon!
The winters were long and hard in Northern Ontario also. During World War Two we all had Victory Gardens. In the winter my father switched the garden to a small ice rink with the lights and red and blue lines. When we were not playing on the road under the street lights we played in the yard or down the hill on the lake.
Very very cool!!!
