Idaho is a state that is poorly funded for education, but the UI plays in a tiny football stadium and gets poor crowds. They also play basketball in this same stadium (it's a dome) and get horrible crowds. Minor sports are often funded by football and men's basketball ticket sales (more football than basketball), thus UI struggles in funding minor sports, despite being a fairly impressive university outside of athletics.
Their facilities for track (300 meter indoor track/new outdoor track) are nice; their support is not good.

Are you talking about Idaho STATE in Pocotello or the University of Idaho in Moscow? Because they are very different.
That funding stuff is a bold-faced lie. How are they badly funded when I can count 5 foreigners on their men's track team and 8 women foreigners on their track team. Funding isn't the issue it's the piss-poor coaching.
Look at Phipps' record with his men's XC team Cody Helbling ran something like 8:15 at BYU, transferred to Idaho can't run under 8:25 now... Glad to hear that Idaho has a chance at hiring a good development coach and not just a guy who offers fulls to Canadians and then never improves them.
That's because he wasn't in the MAC or the GLIAC. You gotta get out more often.

According to google he's with HSI. He's only a year removed from NCAA violations so he will probably be coaching in 2015 again at the college level. Disclaimer: I had no idea who he was until i google searched him

Still no proof.
I agree with guinn. U of Idaho is no where near a Pac 12, and I don't know what their budget is, but I think they currently have the athletes and the resources to be better than average in their new conference, provided they get decent coaching.
Three full time coaches is par for the course in the Big Sky. Some of the better institutions have four full time and NAU has more, but by the looks of it ISU, PSU, EWU, UND, and UNC really only have two full time, a third "full time" making very little, and then a few volunteers.
I would expect they would be looking for two full time assistants, who won't make much but it would be a good opportunity. Great city, competing in a great conference.
Maybe so because I still can't understand why we have been discussing the Idaho job for a month
University of Idaho in Moscow. I said "Idaho is a state" lower case on state as to not confuse the two. UI is 8 miles from Washington State; ISU is in the craphole we call Pocatello, one of the worst places I've ever been to.
No, they are awfully funded in comparison to most D-1 track programs and D-I athletic departments. All that stuff you can find online. Their A.D. is completely clueless, too. He built a new track without any stands, not that people go to track meets, but that was insane.
If you think their funding is so great, why do they have the lowest athletic budget among all FBS schools?
Agree to disagree about the U of Idaho, as well as your contempt for Pocatello and south eastern Idaho.
It seems no one knows which way Idaho is going for assistants. Hopefully they will get moving soon and post the positions.
Any news on Air Force? Saw a posting awhile back on coaches association site. I have my doubts about the posts claiming Ryan Collins will take over the program.
You will see when the press release comes out that Georgia Southern is filled. its a matter of a sports info guy putting out the release. Moving on..
That was quick! Inside job obviously-surprised they did not have to keep the posting up for a longer period of time- first listed on July 1st.

Taken from Equity in Athletics, Univ. of Idaho has a budget of $163,892 for their men's program and $154,527 for their women's program, for a total budget of $318,419. Yeah right, they're "awfully funded", LOL! You can look up the other stats. They are definitely not financially hurting.

He's also been posting quite a few pictures from out west. Not sure if he's just visiting or made the move.
