Any news on the Air Force job?
I have mixed feelings about this.
1. Sparks seems very, very solid. Probably a coaching upgrade for the distance runners.
2. I kind of agree that Notre Dame is more balanced in their recruiting. They seem to be trying to build a track team, not just XC and mid/distance. Two proof points:
- their recent recruiting is over 50% sprints, jumps and throws (http://parser.dyestat.com/collegepicks.jsp?seasonyear=2014&sort=colleges&colID=7441) and
- they won the Capital One Cup this year. If you've ever looked at the scoring algorithm, it weights Outdoor Track 3X over XC. It also doesn't award points if you're not in the top 10 (I think), which I highly doubt UND would achieve any time soon in Outdoor.
The net, to me, is that the few mid/distance runners they can recruit will be well coached, but they'll probably continue to be on the bubble re: qualifying for XC NCAAs.
Also, I can tell you that the UND distance runners are true student athletes. So, it will be very difficult for them to make it the the XC podium. No offense, but schools like OK State, Colorado, NAU, Portland, Iona, etc. don't have that constraint.
Any word on Temple job? Who took it?

Kent at Purdue...are you kidding me. He has no coaching experience. This proves that it is definitely who you know, not what you know! ADs don't care about cross country and track or they would hire coaches with proven resumes.
ADs don't hire assistant coaches; the Head coach does this.
UGA announcement coming soon.

Still waiting on Morehead State to announce.
If Duke made the right women's XC hire; then the Elon U. position should be desired by a distance coach.
So this guy is Dir. of Ops in a highly successful program for 5 years and progresses to a decent Big-5 Conference job. You seem dumbfounded by this.? Don't you realize that's why people to dir. of ops jobs... because that is the natural progression into coaching. Learn behind and be secretary to the best, then earn your way. You're a fool. Don't be upset because you went the route of being moderately successful at a DIII program that no one's heard of.
Kent being hired at Purdue says it all, he has ZERO coaching experience. As a director of ops you're not even allowed to assist with coaching. It's amazing how unprofessional this profession has become.
Rolando must be wondering why he can't seem to hang on to a distance coach at a University like Purdue, 3 coaches in 5 years? Not professional. If you think that buying the plane tickets and reserving hotels for Oregon will make you the next Bowerman- thats full blown retard.

This position probably pays $20,000 with no benefits. This is why the job only attracts former volunteer coaches and director of ops with ZERO coaching experience. No one with experience is interested.
Considering Greene makes 130k I bet its actually a decent paying gig.
20k??? No. Try 50-60k wrote:

Considering the raises the current staff has recieved... an under qualified staff addition in an area of non-focus (xc/distance) for the program will be where they skimp on the salary... 30-40k im guessing...
