I heard they bought a very expensive 2nd house in Portland with a lot of customized upgrades. I think their treadmill faces a huge window which faces the forest. Pretty sweet. I wonder what they will fetch for it.

Well , well , well , as the circle turns , looking for the end of rainbow , magic one more time , the secret formula… this will be a new challenge for Wetmore , he has a great college program , a posse of elites and now an aging has been with an unemployed husband living off his wife's winnings and shrinking shoe contract. Boulder is a great town , great running city , but it does not have the support mechanisms that Nike campus and Nike itself offer and this is a factor it seems for an often injured Kara. Maybe its the shoes ( injury problems ) , kinda hard to wear another brand when your running on the nike campus…
As a side note , most of the better distance women in Boulder are with Hudson's training group.
Wish her the best and one more big fast marathon !
I had a thought that she might ultimately end up with Hudson. I can understand a little Boulder nostalgia, but I think Coach Vigilaround be a much better fit, especially in the twilight of her career.
Auto-edit is killing me lately.
Has Wetmore ever coached a marathoner?
At her age, it gets to be too hard on the body to be training and competing at a top level consistently. She probably has a few good races left but eventually it gets too hard to stay healthy long enough to train and compete at an elite level.
She's had a good career, and it's probably a graceful way of winding things down. She never quite became the world-beater in the marathon that some anticipated, but neither has any other American since the East Africans became dominant.

It was one thing to leave Salazar for another coach in town. But wow, she must really be unhappy if she's willing to move the family out of Portland all together. And to think how happy she seemed last year being partners with Shalane. Who will she train with though?? Simpson, Coburn, and Kipp are all Mid D...
I'd be everything I own that she's not "really unhappy." This is pretty simple. She's 35, Adam's from Colorado and she's looking for a new spark for one final hurrah.
She basically says as much herself in her blog: "There is no dramatic story here, I just need something different."
Motivation was hard for her to find after the Olympics and thus wasn't as into it as she should have been. She's admitted this as much before Boston, "I had a rough time mentally coming off the Olympics and then I had a heel injury."
At age 35, she can't afford to not be super psyched. Now she's super psyched.
I'm amazed all runners don't get stale by 35. Switching it up every few years is good for everyone.
The lacking motivation quote comes from here:
http://www.runnersworld.com/elite-runners/kara-gouchers-boston-build-wasnt-perfect-shes-readyPlus, there were rumors if her wanting to get back to Colorado a couple of years ago and they couldn't sell their Portland home. Plus, if you're not from the NW, they may simply prefer the climate of Colorado vs. Oregon for the long term.
Hmm , switching it up very few years , Im not so sure about that , I the best of the better runners with longer careers have stayed with the same coach and routine that gets modified as the athlete changes and matures with racing , age and injuries. Chasing goudou as they say is what Kara is doing , nothing wrong with it , probably good for the head to be out of the nike circus. altitude may help as well , but switching coaches every few years , moving around, sorry rojo, not a winning formula.

Eventually. However, I seem to recall that Carlos Lopes managed to hold him off rather nicely when he was 37/38-years-old.
Lopes never actually declined in performance. He had spotty years where he wasn't racing but every time he did race he delivered performances that were right up with the tops in the World.
Kara has shown little of that.

Not getting re-signed by Nike. Gotta find something else, which this is a pretty damn good "something else" for sure. Nothing more or less to it.
That being said- what power Nike has in this sport. The moment they decide not to re-sign someone that person loses their sponsor AND their coach and training partners, and more or less their place of residence. Is this good for the sport?
Also, I hope Kara continues to kill it like Meb has after Nike snubbed him.
Anybody have a link to the listing/more info?

I don't see where it says she didn't get re-signed by Nike. I would actually be very surprised if Nike dropped her. I would imagine that she is one of the best-known and most well-liked (by consumers) runners in their stable, particularly among recreational women runners. That's a group that spends a whole lot of money on shoes and clothes. It wouldn't surprise me at all if they kept her on some type of sponsorship deal after she's done with elite competition, just to have her appearing at race expos and giving speeches with the swoosh on.
On the other hand, I was surprised when they dropped Meb, so clearly I don't have any insider knowledge.

For $2.5 million if anyone wants to live like a Goucher they can relocate to Portland.
But the Zillow.com estimate on Summitview is only $1,523,000 so you would have to pay a $1,000,000 "Goucher Premium" to live like a Goucher.
I'll pass.
Great to see them coming back. I remember running on Cherryvale and seeing Adam out flying his RC glider in a nearby field. I stopped a couple of times and chatted with him. Super nice dude.
Alan Culpepper should coach Kara.
"super psyched" has a limited shelf life - soon enough, gettin back to work will take over
has all real estate information: owners, permits/cases, purchase price, etc
plug in the address of the home and you are all set. Looks like they purchased for 410,00 in '09 and then renovated the heck out of it
Its not that she will not get resigned it that she will have a new value that will be below what she signed for when she was more on top of her game. Meb was not dropped , he was offered less of a contract than he or his brother thought was his fair value. Meb lucked out with his new deal.
Recreational runners could give a damn who Kara is or any other elite for that.
She has a short window of max income , lets hope she saved as when the paycheck shrinks or goes away , reality sets in. BTW , Boulder is more expensive than Portland.
They paid $410,000 for the lot, then built a large custom home on that lot.
