Congrats...another Kenyan. And we wonder why the sport has plummeted so badly in America. You don't see Americans going to Kenya and waving their golf clubs around like fools. People ask where has track gone in America? Blame college coaches for giving "20" year old Kenyan freshman scholarships when there are decent high schoolers who have worked here in the states to earn it just as much. Cheresek is great, I'll give him that but a freshman? C'mon he's going off a midwifes say of how old he is and when he was born.
"Track" in America never existed because of it's distance runners. So the entire NCAA field could be foreign and it wouldn't matter.

We've been thru this many times before.
On Letsrun, white = American, American = white, nonwhite = not American.
I'll still maintain that if Cheserek were, say, Jamal Washington from Alabama, no one would have a problem.
I had a feeling Kithuka was in trouble when I saw the flotrack videos several weeks ago where he was talking about course records, what splits he wanted to hit, etc. When I found out how muddy it was going to be I hoped he would have switched his tactics to something similar to what Abby D did.
Of course I'm not saying I predicted a loss, but his head was in the wrong place. It's weird enough to think you can run 40 seconds faster than a 27:10 guy, but to announce that just didn't make sense.
Dude, just run a sensible race and get the W. If the time comes, awesome. If it doesn't, no biggie.
This takes nothing away from Cheseret's run, which was awesome.
First of all, assduck, oregon is clown college.

Princeton has pretty well been identified as clown college, albeit with much more verve and with than Phil's petty envy could likely express.
I love all the Kithuka bashing. With the exception of Cheserek, there were 252 other runners that would like to have "not shown up" as much as Kithuka did today.

But what if he were Joseph Kipchirkorirkemboilagat, the Alabama-born kid of Kenyan decent?

Hmm, that's a good hypothetical! Born in the USA though . . . I think most would be okay with it. Probably a few would complain; but hey, this is Letsrun, where people complain about Mormon missionaries being too old! If you aren't born in the USA, younger than 23, and not coached by Alberto Salazar, you will have some haters!
Redneck racist , my god come out from under your rock , coaches are judged and paid on wins , assemble the best team you can. Using foreign athletes has been around for sometime now. Athletes competing have never complained as much as outsiders as yourself who don't have a clue.
Maybe we should throw out the mormons who take a year off for mission and come back older and more mature.

Yes, you did make things up. And you just admitted it. He said it had more to do with Kithuka not showing up. He NEVER even mentioned the word "deserve". YOU made that up.

He'd be a pretty ridiculous runner, but not quite as good as if he were Joseph Gebkipchirkorirkemboilagat.
The Big Cheese!!!
A Duck - some people are 60-year-ish-old guys and act very immature like 13. Some people are complete douchebags. Some people have such miserable lives they try to relive their college lives from 40 years ago. You have won the trifecta! YOu are all three. A douchebag trying to relive college years and a big time jerk to boot! Congrats you loser!

I have never heard that Tyson Gay, Carl Lewis... were not Americans. They are obviously from African decent...
So it's certainly not a black and white thing...

You should call yourself Hypocritical Thinking.
Nobody complains about the ages of Mormons except when pointing out the racism of those who attack the ages of African runners while leaving out any criticism of much older Mormon runners.
Rono, Lindgren and Prefontaine won 3 out of 4 years. Difficult to tell if they redshirted the odd year or got beat. There was a time when freshman were not allowed to compete in varsity sports. Ches puts himself in line to be the first to do the quad.

1) Yes they do. You should have heard them on that thread about the BYU kid who almost lost a year of eligibility for running unattached in some XC race right after he got back from his mission.
2) How am I hypocritical? I think that if you are a student at a NCAA member university and haven't exhausted your eligibility then you are fine competing. I believe that is NCAA rules.
nicodemus did the quad.
Running on Empty and Iwksk
Kithuka himself said tactics had nothing to do with it so both of you posters are dead wrong. He said he couldn't get solid footing and keep sliding; however, he had great footing for over 7km. He may have been hinder by footing; however, only one runner was stronger to capitalize on the conditions all runners faced to defeat the overwhelming "dominating all season" favorite Kennedy Kithuka!!!
Last year Lawi Lalang was in great shape, he was just outran by Kennedy Kithuka! This year Kennedy was the class of the field; however, he was just outran by a stronger and fitter runner in Edward Cheserek!
