Congrats...another Kenyan. And we wonder why the sport has plummeted so badly in America. You don't see Americans going to Kenya and waving their golf clubs around like fools. People ask where has track gone in America? Blame college coaches for giving "20" year old Kenyan freshman scholarships when there are decent high schoolers who have worked here in the states to earn it just as much. Cheresek is great, I'll give him that but a freshman? C'mon he's going off a midwifes say of how old he is and when he was born.
Blak, blah, blah. Stop promoting American mediocrity. Last year, Cheserek lost to ab unch of Amercians in the Dream Mile; he went away worked hard and won NCAAs this fall. American's need to stop riding the bus to school, put down the video game controllers, give up the big Macs, and get to work. And, oh year, Ches is younger than all of thos BYU guys.

How many NCAA titles will this young man win in his collegiate career?
Depends on whether he decides to forgo his last couple of years of collegiate eligibility to make some masters' cash on the roads.

He looks believably 19. I have no problem with him going pro before age 23.
I'll stick with my position that the NCAA should give you 5 years from age 18 to 23 to compete, and then you're out.
But, we all know the NCAA doesn't give a crap what we think.
It is all about football and basketball money for them. BILLIONS over sports that cost them money.
A 25 year old Kenyan beats a bunch of American college boys. How amazing!!!
Chererek was a high school athlete in the U.S. who worked hard as well, wasn't he?
Im not so sure it was a real upset. I think the so called experts missed Ed's ability to win today. His winning the x-country race in Colorado ( altitude ) against a good field showed extreme fitness ( high Vo2 max ) , which on a tough day like today pays a dividend. I think many underestimated his racing intelligence as well , he didn't chase down every surge , he showed the confidence and composure of a more mature athlete.
I think we may see the possibility of a 4 peat in his x-country career if he stays healthy.
Yes, as previously established, Kenyans simply don't exist between the ages of 16 and 25. According to Letsrun logic, they're terrible up to 16, then disappear into the netherworld to do EPO and run 500 miles a week until the age of 25. It's impossible that a guy who will go on to run 12:50 would be able to beat the NCAA at 19. Of course, Bob Kennedy's win as a freshman would seem to contradict this view, but we simply ignore it as is our wont.
Anybody have any idea on what kind of mileage Cheserek was doing over the summer and throughout the season?

No, you're both wrong. No one made any implication. No one said that Cheserek didn't fully earn it. You're making things up. All that was said was that Kithuka didn't show up. Cheserek won so he deserves to win. Kithuka showing up or not showing up has nothing to do with that.
He (who originally raised the issue) said specifically that the victory had more to do with Kithuka not showing up. I made nothing up
Korolev is the true winner in my mind. American, known age, and a Harvard guy, we talk about the myth of Ivy League prestige but you can't deny this guys awesome
This is very impressive for Cheserek to destroy Kithuka, who must have had a bad day, considering how he had destroyed fields for the past year and more. Do you seriously think that Kithuka at full strength would beat Korolev by just four-tenths of a second? But Cheserek has made a quantum leap forward. He has now won a Kenyan junior national championship xc race, multiple American high school xc championships, and now the NCAA xc champs his first time out. I really didn't think Kithuka was beatable by anyone other than Lalang.
I'm also surprised about Campbell. Where was he? And fine performance by Jim Rosa, who'd been the slower of the two brothers. Joe Rosa was obviously injured. But neither of the two Rosas was impressive in college until this year after a great hs campaign. What were the conditions like?

You've obviously never been to Nairobi.

So? I am pretty sure if you surveyed Kenyan midwives this moment on the year they would do as well as American hospital charts.
The big cheese ran a 1:49 800m in high school two years ago. His options for track are pretty wide.

He was born in Kazakhstan, so what makes you so sure of his age? Why not come out and admit he's the white winner.

can't wait to watch the video! Amazing runner who knows how to race, he stayed cool and clam, great smooth effortless form, and showed tremendous GUTS! what a runner! wow...
I also heard he ate mussels and scallops the night before the race, so it kind of makes sense.

You have to conclude that certainly Cheserek was awesome today but also Kithuka underperformed.
He barely held off the 3rd place dude from Harvard after he was winning by huge margins all year lond

We've been thru this many times before.
On Letsrun, white = American, American = white, nonwhite = not American.
