Also, unlike Jared Ward, he did not do a mission trip. Pretty sure he was running races in Germany during his gap years.

The dude definitely looks old. Did he really graduate in 2007? How could someone be eligible 7 falls after graduating high school?
-
A serious question:
Did he go straight to college after high school?
If he didn't the 5 year clock starts when a student first enrolls and attends classes. -
After looking at the kids bio
I have no freaking clue when the kid graduated high school.
Did he go to Germany after graduating high school in the USA? -
He graduated at MICDS in 2007. Went back to Germany to run for a bit or something. Came back to the states and made it through clearinghouse but I thought he would be done by now.

There's also an age limit for d1 -
Surely the Letsrun sleuths can get to the bottom of this

So after high school you can take as many years off before going to college as you want and your 5 year clock won't start? Even if you are running races?

When I was running in college (at a small DI school) a few years back, there was a guy who was 37 and a woman who was in her early 40s competing for another small DI school in our conference. Both had served in the military for 15+ and returned back to school and wanted to compete on a team still. Neither were that good, and both were American, but older individuals do compete. Chris Weinke at Florida State, anyone?

So how is this "kid" eligible? -
Originally from Germany, in which high school is 5 years while undergrad is only 3.
2007 (Year 4 of 5 in HS): Studies abroad in USA, attends MICDS.
2008: Year 5 of 5 in HS in Germany
2009-2011: 3 year undergrad in Europe
Fall 2011: Studies abroad at UT-Austin. Runs club nationals (NIRCA), and gets 4rd: http://www.clubrunning.org/races/2011/results_nats2011.php
Fall 2012: Enrolls at Illinois for grad school. Since he started "undergrad" in 2009, the 5 year clock expires in 2014, giving him 2 full years of eligibility.
