I'd be impressed if pronghorns could run 200 miles in a day.

If they never left the valley how can they be covering as much distance as the Indians in Patagonia?

Yep very interesting. The article says they chased the Cheetahs for 6.4km. In conditions that are probably 100 degrees Celsius. Impressive.
100 degrees celcius? Are you drunk??
Someone needs to test these farmers. 100% they're doping or at LEASt overage.

The pronghorn, though it is not an antelope, has been known to travel 800 miles in less than a day.
They can run so fast because they used to be hunted by cheetah-like cats which went extinct.
The first sentence is simply incorrect.
The 2nd is conjecture, but ill-directed, IMO. It simply doesn't explain the pronghorns amazing endurance. An animal whose primary predator runs for no more than 1/4 mile in a chase, taking about 15 seconds, is not likely to need to run for 4 more hours .... The standard given for pronghorn is 60mph for 4 hours .. There's not an animal we know about that might have chased them for 239 miles before giving up the chase.

Or, if they run so fast and so far, how come they never left the valley. It can't be THAT long.

Pretty good story here, maybe cheetahs are not so fast after all ....

Persistent hunting theory in action...
This happened in the north eastern part of kenya which is not known for running at all. There has not been a single kenyan runner come from this region.
Fwiw, humans have been able to outrun cheetahs for a century by using tools they developed with their brains. In fact, they've been able to outrun sound on land and travel over 24,000 mph at an altitude of 400,000 feet. They've also thrown an SUV sized object into the air and completely out of our solar system. Brains are awesome.

That's amazing if true.

If they can go 240 miles in 4 hours, why wouldn't they go 800 miles in a day?

I'm more impressed that none of the farmers killed the cheetah and they handed it over to the Wildlife Service.
I agree 100%.
I'm pretty sure that more than 50% of the people on this board can run down Usain Bolt.
Not that impressive...
How far could the cheetah run under ideal conditions? At 60 degrees Fahrenheit and a slight tailwind, I imagine they run at least 10k at 2 minute per kilometer pace.
Consider this picture of a cheetah chasing a gazelle* The cheetah has what is called speed reserve. Although the gazelle has a more powerful aerobic engine, the cheetah is clearly spending less energy to run that pace.

Populated by ethinic Somalis, though. Like Mo Farah and Abdi Bile.

60mph x 24h = 1440 miles/day.
Taking into account they have to stop and rest, that's about 1000 miles, realistically, for a well-trained pronghorn.
Pronghorns can't even run 800m at 60mph.
Peabrain.
"Pronghorn Antelopes, on the other hand, can maintain speeds of 60 mph for miles at a time."
You are wise to veil your womanly, unregistered presence as you embarrass yourself in the face of well-referenced facts.
It would be a no contest if the cheetah knew the race wsa over 4 miles
It can't jog off for miles every time it sees a human or other predator it would get exhaused.
It would normally just sprint out of harms way. Repeated fast burst have tired it. The story is incomplete as well and there is no as to what actually happened. One did not look like an adult anyway
Perhaps Ventolin can run the figures, surely Bolt could jog 4 miles at 10 min mile pace. What could a cheetah jog 4 miles in
All this exageration of the importance of persitence hunting forgets one thing, Reverse the situation with humans as the prey and the lion is not going to give you a 4 mile race. Without weapons and intelligence we would have been wiped out
To the other wanker before this is a message board not a dissertation.

Not sure if you are trying to be funny or are just unimaginably stupid.
