That's Noah Kauppila for the boys' win. He ran 8:54.45 at Arcadia this past spring, just missing Tegenkamp's record of 8:53.79.

Girl's record broken twice today. Hannah Long had it for about an hour, running 17:46 in the Class 4 race.
MO course changes about every other year so this is not big news - Noah is an outstanding runner and has a chance to be very good in college, etc. Still am impressed with Teg's 15:26 on a hard, hilly course on an 82 degree day (won by one minute). He took 5th at Footlocker a few weeks later (high 14:40's???) Let's hope a few Missourians take a shot at footlocker!!!
Congratulations Noah and Taylor! You broke some impressive records on a very tough course. Best of luck at Nike or Footlocker.
The course is easier today than it was when Teg ran it. Also the weather was beautiful today. When Teg ran it was very warm. Teg would have run under 15 if he would have raced on today's layout with today's weather. He beat Jason Sadfordt by a minute!
Agree with MOshowme. The course is much, much easier now. Nothing to take away from Noah, but he doesn't hold a candle to Teg yet. Maybe that will change with the rest of his xc season if he continues on, or in track.
But, as for state records, this one should have an asterisk beside it.
Kauppila doesn't run the 10k. Just sayin'.
Noah is the real deal. However, he only broke the record by 4 seconds, the course has been made easier since Teg's day, and it was also in the upper 80s the year Teg ran the record.
Furthermore, some say that Zinn's record on the even older version of the course is the most impressive of them all.
I ran the MO state championships in 87 and 88. Anyone on here who can compare that course with today's? I'd be curious about a speed rating type of comparison. And was the 87-88 course the same one Zinn and Falcon ran on?
I do remember the old course being a beast.

1987-1990 course according to the map
http://www.usatf.org/routes/view.asp?rID=275310If you are going to go with an asterisk for it, then even Teg's record should have one as the course back when he ran was considered easier than when Falcon, Zinn, Borsa and others ran before.
The girl's record would be the same way compared to what Meghan Thompson ran back in the day to what they have run the last few years.
MO State course has changed so much that course records seem pointless no matter how you look at it, but they are still running some great times.
One other thing of note, Teg didn't break the 9min barrier for 3200/2mi until his Senior year when he first ran 8:56 or so at the HS State meet, then faster in post season. Noah has already run 8:54 as a Junior - hopefully if he stays healthy and strong over the off season and during the spring it would be great to see if he can improve upon that success in 2014!

I ran the same time as Teg, and I know the course is easier now. However, to say Noah doesn't hold a candle is ridiculous. As a junior he was within a second of Teg's best high school 3200 meter time. I think the track course conditions were about the same on those races.

I should say I ran the same era as Teg. I sure as heck didn't run the same time :)
Aren't there like 4 iterations of that course that are all allegedly harder than the previous one? I remember in the mid 90's being told that the "old" course was harder than the one I ran for 3 years. Then the one Teg ran his senior year had already been modified to be slightly easier than the one from his first couple years. They didn't make the runners go all the way down that steep hill (just past 2 miles) and climb all of firestation hill back up any more.
So now they've even made it easier than the 1999 course? That kind of stinks, although it makes sense because even though runners are definitely faster now days than they were in my era, I still find it hard to imagine that many kids breaking 16 min in one race. Sub 16 was reserved for only the all-time greats of Missouri running back in the day.
They've changed it many times. My limited knowledge/explanation:
Zinn era - used to go down by the lake in the back section and then back up a monster hill in addition to Fire Station hill
Teg era - no more lake hill, still traditional Fire Station hill
Mid 2000s - Fire station hill changed so that you don't go down to the bottom and go up the gravel section, making it easier
2010ish - Another traditional significant hill, about 800m in, is now not run and they lengthened the finishing stretch to compensate, also making it easier because you used to have that sharp last turn into the steep, short uphill. Now it's a more gradual turn and you still have the steep uphill but it's on a straightaway and not a turn. I think they may have extended the W about 1.5 in so that there is a small hill on the back side now.
Not trying to discount Noah. He will break Teg's high school 3200m PR, but I think Teg was the better cross guy. As someone else pointed out, he beat Jason Sandfort in that race BY A MINUTE.
Blah blah...
Noah is on top of Teg's 3200 time as a junior. He blew away the State XC times of Korolev, Everett and other top current college runners from MO.
Werner crushed Sisson's and Quigley's times -- both Olympic trials qualifiers and current top collegiate XC runners. Long is clearly the 2nd best ever --- and she's not in the same league.
The top runners aren't slower now than 10-20 years ago - they are much much faster. The training is way better, the psych barriers are lower, etc.
You know how it is obvious that you are young? You only brought up Missouri runners from the last couple of years. Daniel Everett is a solid miler but wouldn't even be close to the top 20 all-time collegiate cross guys from MO.
The course has changed and is easier now. Just accept it. I accept that Noah will be a better high school track runner than Teg (FYI, Noah has not bested Teg's 3200m time yet, unlike your claim), and I am very excited about his future. You should accept that his 15:22 was inferior to Teg's 15:26. Hell, even Zach Herriott managed to run low 15:30s on the wimpy newer course.
I am actually an old guy... I was simply referencing top runners from the new course.
Certainly the course has changed ... Just like Mt Sac and others.
Verzbicas is faster than Fernandez who is faster than Nelson.
Note : No One beat Nelson's time for 30 years due to poor training methods and poor motivation in US racing circles.
Cain is faster than Decker.
Face it... Werner is faster than Sisson who is faster than Snow
We will see if Noah proves faster in the 3200 than Teg next spring.
Since they have effectively the same 3200 time with Noah as a JR, why are you disbelieving they would have effectively the same XC time?
