Yesterday I watched the streaming coverage of the Ironman Triathlon--they broadcast for over 8 hours, and showed the real race for 98% of the time. In 8 hours, they had less "human interest" crap than Chicago has had already
The stream is a local Chicago affiliate. They're not aiming to please the hardcore runners. They have to balance that with the local community. Overall, I think it's not terrible coverage.

I'm calling BS.. 98% of Ironman stores are human interest crap.
Nope. That's the broadcast TV coverage, which is shown later nowadays. Yesterday was mostly just racing.
One thing I do like about the coverage we're seeing on LR is that we dont have to watch the commercials--we get the uncut/unproduced video stream of the race
Ritz 59:44/4:49
Last year--Ritz 60:08

I watched the last hour. What you say is true, but there was really a lot of product placement during the coverage. But the commentators were really awful, the constantly contradicted each other. For the women finish the time displayed on the screen was false (by two minutes) and even the guys who had written the live updates were fooled by that.
I found it kind of funny that the female winner had what I think was the 3rd best running performance overall (yes, including men)
Lead women at 15km.
50:44 is 2:22:42 pace so they are just ahead of Employee 1.1.
Santucc is on 2:30:18 pace as the top American.

Wondering Again wrote:Hilarious. What did it take, ten minutes for Ritz to get dropped? And where are all those folks who were calling Ritz for the win now?
I remember when know it all's like you said the same thing about Deena at the olympics.
I don't think Ritz is going to win, but I think you should STFU.
I remember when you made a ridiculous claim trying to link me to Deena predictions at the Olympics.
Nice try, but you can't create a link that does not exist.
There were plenty of folks on these boards calling for Ritz to win and saying that those of us who were realistic were somehow 'negative nellies'.
Sorry, but I live in the real world. Ritz is a fantastic runner but he never had a chance to win. Never. Not in a million years.
2:03:46 pace through half. So close to wr pace.
Deena is decked out like a Xmas tree decoration?
Ritz 1:03:02
Last year 1:03:25
Frank Shorter ran 2:10:30 in 1972...

1:01:52 for leaders
1:03:02 for ritz
hartmann is gone at halfway, too bad for ritz who's now stuck with just one kenyan, reuben limaa. he's not gonna hold on for long, 60:53 half guy, 28:xx on roads
Wow, this time bomb is about to explode. If Ritz were in 2:05:30 shape, he'd have a damn good chance of making this interesting by the end.
teg 1:05:14ish pretty even pacing, good job bu pacers cragg and solinsky
Need more Tony Reavis.
Top 30 men at halfway.

Again, Tadese should have run with ritz as he's only 7 seconds up. It's a shame if he bombs this race as well. HE should try to go to a 2:07 type race and win that instead of trying to run 2:03.
ritz obviously is looking for the american record in 2:05 high. he won't think about anything else unless he hits 22 miles and feels fresh... that would be interesting.
if i were tadese i'd draft all the way with the main pack.
either do well or die.
teg looks like 210-11 all the way. will be interesting to see what happens at 22 miles.
