USATF's website is unforgivably awful and usually extremely out of date.

Those people are largely to blame for the poor marketing of the sport.
That's what I'm getting at. I totally sympathize with David Torrence, but what he's complaining about is not the disease but a symptom of the disease. Elites are not being cut out of prize/appearance money because the penguin runs a 30 min 5K or whatever it is he runs if he runs. The distance side is not being publicized/marketed anything like other professional sports.
It sure doesn't help if Mr Average Joe running in the Rock And Roll Somewhere goes to USA Track and Field and STILL can't find out who the hell David Torrence is.
Forget about NFL and NBA. You can go to any of the NCAA schools that have publicists frequently submitting stuff to places like Track and Field News. Every one of them is an order of magnitude better than the morons working for USA Track and Field. That's the first place that needs changing.
Last year - I organized a road race with $5000 prize money. On race day I got a bunch of no name Ethiopians and Kenyan who live in northern virginia show up on race day - wanting to be let in free because they were "elite". I made them pay but they took all the prize money and none of them spoke English and did no interviews with print or tv media.
This year I eliminated prize money and got just as many runners and joggers showing up because it was a fun race with food and beer afterwards. So offering prize money for the elites - was a wise business investment. Saved 5K and a lot of headaches
THIS IS A SILLY THREAD.
Mr. Bingham is talking to ROAD RACERS. Competitor Group does not organize Track Meets. Why does a Track Athlete defend his behavior and what does that have to do with Road Racing?

He goes above and beyond, but athletes who don't aren't being selfish, they just prefer not to.
I'm going to guess you don't know what the word selfish means.
Torrence does plenty of road miles
If it hasn't been stated previously - John Bingham is PAID to stay till the last finisher comes in.

Please list the ones that are put on by The Competitor Group? A MD runner has nothing to do with Road Races and Road Miles are an extension of track.
this is my blog post in response to DT's #investinUSAtrack on twitter. just adding my ideas to give the viewing public some ideas to chew on. who knows if any of these will stick, but we have to start somewhere.
