Well done Matt.

No, it's part of racing. Running diagonally across a road from the opposite side to shove another runner is a deliberate action aimed at interfering with that runner. Teg was out of line.
I have the feeling that if the roles of the Ethiopian and Teg had been reversed most people here would be singing a different tune. Call that what you like.
Teg probably didn't need to give him a small brush (it was not a shove), but he was clearly upset at how he was shoved by the Ethiopian and justifiably so. If the roles were reversed it would be a dick move by Teg. Taking the corner is one thing, but shoving (as the ethiopian did) was the foul. I don't see it as an issue that Teg let him know it was not cool.

How 'bout I call it Englebert Humperdink?
don't feel at all bad for Teg. Raced in the US Outdoor 10k champs before and midway through he works his way from the back of the pack and totally shoves me and another guy to get through...at like mile 3. Not like it was kicking time in the typical tactical US Outdoor race. Thought it was uncalled for and so I don't feel he's got respect for fellow competitors, but that's just from my personal experience.
On one hand, it's nice to see an American guy not letting the contact slide for once. However, Teg made it pretty obvious what he was doing, which is weak. He wasted a lot of mental energy getting pissed off about the situation. Should have saved it for the finish, and then taken it up with the Ethiopian after the race. If he absolutely couldn't restrain himself, punch him in the back so the camera can't see it. Don't give the guy a clear, blatant shove in retaliation.
Matt "I only race 2x/year" Tegankamp acted like a child in this scenario. If someone bumps you going by on a turn in a non track race, it's pretty natural, and not a big deal. Teg didn't need to start crying and try to attack the little guy. It would have been funny if Teg just got right up on his shoulder and sat there for a minute instead.

It seems like he has some serous anger management issues. Hector Camacho had some of the same seriousl anger management issues I am witnessing now with Teg and I think he is dead. Teg needs to seek immediate help or this could escalate into something very very tragic. This is not a game Teg - pleae get help and fast!
Teg had 3 options
1) Do nothing in retaliation and probably get 2nd. Good response.
2) Knock the guy down, getting himself disqualified, but at least preventing the other guy from finishing too. Great response.
3) Give the guy a limp-wristed tap in the back and look pathetic in doing so. Awful response.
He chose #3.
This is why we should be able to carry when competing. I'll bet that little thug wouldn't have assaulted Teg had he known he was packing.

#2 an awful response. What happens if the guy hits his head on the ground and dies? That happened locally here when a man punched a man and the man died after his head hit the concrete.
What Teg did wasn't a bump. It was barely a brush. If someone was shown only that without knowledge of what happened right before, he would say that was nothing. Stop making a big deal out of it.
It's all the b*tch Allison's fault. Teg should have flattened her.
What an amazing non-incident... only on Let's Run do the gentleman racers come out of the wood work to give character assessments, psych evaluations, and running ethics advice over a 2 second positioning incident where nothing happened other than rubbing and racing.
The back of the pack must be where the "real" runners are, not those guys fired up in the front to win a national title.
That midget took a way to aggressive line and Teg called him out on it. Haven't any of you guys been in a race before?
Solinski taking a dive after his baby bump on the track was conversational, this is on par with discussing a Fernando Cabadass youtube video, worthless.
Anybody notice Philip Mosima in the results? He was an amazing athlete as a junior...
such a tiny little african

C'mon, out of all the garbage discussed on letsrun, you single this one out for being pathetic? At least this was about a race.
Look, of course people are getting carried away with their analyses (some just for fun), but in reality, when I watched the race (before this thread) and saw Teg's reaction (overreaction?), I literally laughed out loud and said "WTF??" Yes, he was cut off, and yes, I don't blame him for reacting a bit and being a little pissed, but it was the manner in which he ran 15 feet across road right at the guy to purposely bump him that was surprising. Never saw that before. Usually you get bumped and immediately give a little push back or say something. It was just very strange the way he came flying across the road at him.
Sure, overall, not a big deal, but an unusual sight in a championship race, and I am not surprised people are commenting on it.
The other funny thing is: he actually barely touches Teg. He bumps Braun more and from that contact sort ricochets towards Teg but only brushes him. Teg was going real wide on the turn anyway, as were most others, so it only appeared as if he was sent careening to the outside. It was an overreaction to charge across the road, NOT on the line he apparently wanted to follow, just to bump him back. Then he immediately run backs to the line he was on, the one the ETH runner helped send him towards anyway!
If I could write a post about all the garbage on Let's Run, I'd never be able to do anything else in life...
Your post is a perfect description of the event. A simple overzealous move in the middle of the race that was surprising.
Instead, the hucksters immediately start with what a whinny, overpaid, under appreciative jerk he is and how completely over the top his move was and how big of a baby he is.
I know some people are just joking and trolling, but some aren't. I'm all for criticizing pro-athletes, it comes with the territory, but stay on point if your going to put your two cents in...
then again, it's let's run, so i shouldn't really expect anything more than the current state of running Rush Limbaughs.
ok, I appreciate your view of my post, and yours is certainly reasonable. I think most people are joking, but yes, but for those seriously bashing him for a bit of an overreaction, that's lame. I always thought Teg had a bit of a "tough guy" attitude, so I am not terribly surprised by what he did. But I am not thinking less of him because of this. It mostly just humorous.
