Ed
That's just insane.
Like running a 4:35 mile or 2:04 800 at that age. Can't wait to see what he runs at 70-80-90.
A key point to note: he started running @ 37.
Holy cow, that's flying for any age, let alone a 60 year old.
101.8% age graded - somewhat similar to some of Ed's best performances if I recall correctly.
You know its fast when Ed Whitlock remarks that its fast.
Put him on a track and that time drops about a minute. So pretty much he and Golden Girl Jordan Hasay about the same.
Rees holds the WR for the 50-plus 5K at 14:53.

Maybe 30 seconds- 3 sec p/k. 32:18. The track record is listed as 34:18.88
If even a 50 year old ran 32:48 it would be incredible. Wonder what he will run at age 70- 34 minutes?[quote]Cappy Longstocking wrote:
That is amazing.

And he ran 30.38 for a road 10k at 50, not a WR though.
I've said it before (posting under a different name) and I'll say it again - Martin Rees is the best masters runner ever. And I say that with the utmost respect for the great Ed Whitlock, too.
Absolutely amazing. Looking forward to what he does as he continues to get older!
The trick now is to be able to continue to race at age 70 and then age 80. So far the only 2 men have done it as successfully as Ed at the longer distances and Earl Fee in the shorter events. Good Genes, patience, consistency, good technique, hard work and what else?
The question at hand is what type of doping is this man involved in even if it is prescribed. Testosterone replacement and other prescription supplements have become so common it is no surprise that times are getting much faster in the older age groups.
14:53, 30;38. Ridiculous. Chemistry involved here.
As a fellow masters runner who is busting his ___ running more than i ever did in college (currently up to 140 miles per week)
i really hate it when people start throwing around "chemistry" acusation without:
1) any proof
2) any knowledge (not knowing what kind of training and effort and consistency over the years he has)
Some of us are actually out there training, pushing the limits of age/ability etc. So the up with this pure speculation. We may be witness greatness at its purest form (for the love of running).
Idiot. You can do 500 miles a week, but if you are 60, you aint gonna do 5 minute miles without extra help.

It is hard work not chemistry. You are ignorant for saying this.
